I can tell you.  I haven't talked with my guide yet, but I have talked to some spirits.  They do sound a little like your thoughts, depending on your guide.  If it is your Main Guide, then it should sound a little like you because he is your spirit.  Other guides that I like to call Gaurdians, they will be distinct if you know how to communicate with them.  Thoughts aren't really words, they are emotions that are translated into words.  So their emotions will come through and your brain will translate this and give it its own uniqueness.  The two I talk to usually sound cheery for the female one and the other is upbeat, but is sometimes depressed.

I think that's the one I'm talking with. The thoughts sound exactly like me, and they come out of "nowhere."

It's like that thing Robert Peterson talks about in one of his books. Where one day he started to hear this voice telling him things, and it sounded like him.

Mine tend to communicate through a non-verbal method.  I just 'know' what they want me to know.  Then my mind will convert that to words so it can understand better.

Talking from my experience, every guide has his hown distinguishable voice, or you could call it 'signature'. Similar to people on earth, those beings all have certain characteristics which determine how they formulate their thoughts when communicating with you. Some are gentle, others direct, some have a high-pitched voice, others more metallic. They don't talk to you via sound waves, but rather send telepathic messages in small blocks - and those messages can contain every information, not only words. This means, you could hear a sentence telepathically, but at the same time get a feeling about the intent of the guide, another feeling which tells you if it's meant serious or as a joke, one which could represent a deep voice, one which could give you a visual image along with the word... there is always much more communicated than single words, and the more you get used to this, the more subtleties you can notice. The qualitative characteristics of a telepathic voice don't have to be fixed - even if there's some sort of 'default' voice, it can be changed by conscious intent. It tried this once with my guide, and she could make her voice feel like anything I could imagine, for example like flowers. So, along with the words, there comes a lot of other information.
If the voice at first sounds similar to your own, this could be attributed to your own busy mind which tries to get a hold on everything it receives. Our mind works in patterns: everything which comes in is automatically compared to what is already known, to see if it makes sense; everything which goes out it formed in the way we're used to; our perception is quite automatic, and the programs we are running in our mind could be too restrictive to let everything through uncoloured. So, after a while of relaxed talking you will probably be closer to hearing the 'original' voice, and when you pay close attention to the things you receive, you will gradually open a pathway for clearer intuitive feeling and percieving.

Is it like they start off sounding like yours then slowly become more and more distinct?
