Title: SOHO pics 8:30am CST
Post by: jilola on June 20, 2004, 08:06:00
It prbably means tat the level of radiation received by the CCD exceeded its dynamic range and caused information to be lost - much like an overexposed phtograph.
The text is an indication to the viewers that the image may be useless.

I'm fairly familiar with SOHO.
The bakeout is kind of a maintenance routine they run on SOHO's main EIT CCD sensor to remove water vapour.

Here's a link that explains it better -

Enjoy,

It means something you're not supposed to see was in the picture, so they pulled it.

Anyone familiar w/SOHO pics out there?  I checked at time shown and it says "CCD Bakeout" across the pic.  Does this mean the sun is doing something extraordinary and they are blacking out the pics?  I know the sun has been doing some really fantastic things since last fall for sure.  There was a really huge sunspot recently.  Wondering if it finally went ballistic.

Thanks, PuffAddr
