Robert Monroe pretty much tried to keep everything a secret until he grew more experienced and formed his own theories.  I don't think it's a good idea for anyone here who's just beginning to learn to start throwing other people's knowledge on other people.  Perhaps explain what you're going through if situations become difficult.
But coming out to friends and family boasting that you flew out of your body the other night is only going to get you locked up or laughed at.  It's important to recognize where the information is coming from.  If it's coming from a book, then it's useless.  If it's from your centre or from your experiences then i think it's ok if you tell the right people, as long as you don't go around bragging in a certain attitude that says "I know and you don't".

Lysear

Sweet celestial sounds, I totally disagree and I think that was a really bad piece of advice. firstly if you tell everyone they may mock you and this could really affect your life. Secondly, if they raise doubts in your mind through this mocking, this could hinder your attempts at any obe or anything occult.

this sort of thing isnt everyones cup of tea, whether you think its because your more advanced them them and "special" or not is besides the point. I personally think that people who study the occult fall into various catogories. Those who are insecure and need to find something to belong to, and to be able to feel special. And another catogory is those who study the occult for serious reasons, they have perhaps had something happen to them which could relate to the occult, or they may just be looking for answers to questions. I really think that the way you see yourself and other "occultists" is quite wrong and dangerous.

Anyway, thats my contribution.

Lysear

Sorry if that sounded like it was aimed at you. It wasnt. I just dislike the attitude espoused by some people who study the occult.

Nay

I know my hubby's eyes glaze over when I start in on the subject!!
But he loves me, respects my beliefs, and would never judge me. (he is a little tired of me talking about his snoring though)

Now....would I go next door and tell my neighbor?....I am thinking a big NO on that one!

My two cents worth, Nay.

panabelle

I was reading your post and all I could think of was Magneto from the first X-men movie. [:D] "We are the more evolved..." Got a kick out of that. How can I be more evolved than my little brother when I'm sure he could easily learn this stuff? Probably better than me, anyway...[:I]

But on a more serious note, I haven't told anyone yet. As I sit at this computer, my hand is half hovering ready to minimize the window should my family come near. Know why? I haven't quite proved this to myself yet. Sad as it seems, I won't deceive myself into thinking I have utter confidence in it. (Working on it though. [|)]) Once I can actually DO something that people stuck on...lower planes, I guess you might phrase it, can perceive, then I'll tell those who will believe. You don't want to gain a reputation as a loony, becuase then NO ONE will believe you. Or at least, much fewer than would if you were careful.

Great to see that you've got pride and confidence in what you believe though. [:)]

Squeek

Hey, here's a question...

Why do you have to prove anything to anybody?  They have no right to demand anything out of you in the first place, and so you have no obligation to display your "skill".  Let's take an example here.

you're playing basketball by yourself, improving on your game.  Some guy walks by, who knows absolutely nothing about the sport, and you know this.  He asks you to shoot from half-court. Here's three things you can do.

1 - Shoot from half court.
a ) miss.  He laughs at you.
b ) make it. He feels no different. I guarantee it.

2 - Ignore him.
a ) he keeps pestering you.  This bothers you and you either move or chuck the ball at him.
b ) He leaves. I doubt he will.

3 - Take a shot back at him. He criticizes your skills as a bball player, and so you shoot down his know-nothing knowledge of the game.

a ) Makes you both feel terrible.  this is the only one for this answer.

Wow I seem to like examples.  Lookit me go..

~Squeek

BTW - Whoaa.  I should really look up some bios here. I had no idea Nay was married.  Geez.  Now i do.  Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry.

panabelle

Well, most people require some sort of proof in order to believe in something. For example, I want to inform my little brother about these things. I think they would come naturally to him if he believed. To show him that I'm not just a raving lunatic, I need to have results enough to prove that I'm not just making it up. Unfortunately, that's the way most people are if it's not something they want to hear.

In this case, the basketball analogy really doesn't make sense. Well, in that case any way.

Not to slam you or anything Squeek. [:D] Although I can imagine the predicament you're in right now, and I definitely understand the better-safe-than-sorry attitiude.

Wow, I've really pulled a Kakkarot, huh? [|)] Less than 10 posts or whatever in the last month or so...But at least they're a bit more meaningful now...[:I]

Nay

Ok Squeek.... What are all the Sorry's for?
Should you get ready for a swift Astral kick in the Arse?...LOL...

[:)] Married with 3 children, Nay. [:D]

well said Lysear..

Just because people study the occult.. try to have/or have OBE's and do energy work does not make you more evolved.  Its a real mistake not to mention really pompous to go around telling everyone because you think you owe it to them since you're more evolved and its your job.

So many who are into the occult are into it for completely opposite reasons than many others who are into it.  Some just want to do Magik and seem special.  Some want to brag about how their ki blast knocked another kid on the ground and made him beg for mercy..

Saying the world is full of children and we're older kids?  Thats just a little broad and arrogant.  There are many people who may not be into this type of thing who are evolved and are not "children".  And many people here are kids.  Lets not get too carried away.

Lysear

Talking of arrogance, intentional or not, there is another post, new today which has disapointed me  a bit. It talks about how the "older members" of the forum are leaving and passing the torch to the "younger ones" I am not usually one to speak out but this has got to be mentioned. The so called "older members" have only been here a year or less! most only a few months. I have been here 9 months or so (give or take) does that mean I am one of these fabled wise ones? should I write such a post which is utterely pointless and full of arrogance (whether intentional or not)? I think not.

I am not "flaming" the member in question or what ever the hell you call it, I am just highlighting an important issue!

Euphoric Sunrise

I think both sides has it's pros and cons. It's good to be able to tell at least a couple of people so you can talk about it it, ask questions, create ideas off each other etc. but you don't want to be going around telling everybody. Some people have very closed minds and as soon as you mention anything to do with the occult they will start trying to put a distance between the two of you. Some people might be excited and ask you heaps of questions and annoy you about it. Of course there might be some who are in the same boat. It's really a gamble unless you know them well enough to tell if they are in the same boat as you.
I personally am a person who likes to keep things to himself. None of my friends know, and the people who do know don't know much. I will say that my family knowing something is enough. I don't have to go around hiding things, making up stories for things, but at the same time they don't ask questions because they already know what's going on, even if they don't know everything.
So yeah it's good to tell a few close people, even if you don't tell them everything, but just telling everybody is not a good idea in my opinion.

I hear ya Lysear.  I'm the newest person on page 1 of the members, and I've only been here since december 2k2.  That's like 6 months.  That makes me feel special :D  Wheee.

Greytraveller

Just a note for those people that feel pressured by the 'unbelievers' to defend the 'reality' of out of body experiences and higher planes/dimensions. (I know that feeling All too well.) There is a growing amount of Scientific theory, literature and discussion about multi-dimensional reality. (Multi-dimensional refers to 4 or more dimensions.)
Some theories include, yet are not limited to, Holographic Universe, Superstring Theory (which postulates 10 or 11 or 12 dimensions) and the Many Worlds Interpretaion (which conceives of alternative universes). The point here is that there is scientific 'backing' of some metaphysical ideas.
If nothing else a few well chosen scientific terms can confuse and discourage many outspoken skeptics. [:D]  [8D]

This is a newer version of the forum, the site itself has been around since 1999 or 2000. I came here in 2000 I believe. The date that you are looking at is the date in which they signed up to this version of the forum. I signed up feb 2002 under another name and june 2002 with this one.

And alot of the old(really old) members have left.

I remember when Robert Bruce used to post very often.[:(] But as long as he's writing more books, Im happy.

kifyre

RB didn't post that often. Well, sometimes several at a time in spurts, then he'd go back to whatever he was doing. :)

Who remembers the really old forum before this fancy new one even existed? :) I was only around for the last few months of that sucker. I think it went back quite a bit.

More than once a month is often to me[;)]

Lysear

even if there are people from 1999, that was still only a couple of years ago! but you miss the point. The post was patronising to say the very least, and thats what made me angry.

Nerezza

It's been four years for some people, and that's a long time to be on a messageboard. But I do agree, it is foolish to assume that just because someone spent a long time here, that they are, "masters of astral projection".

But anyway, what post bothered you? I can't find it.

goingslow

I think I know which post Lysear was talking about.. its in the astral chat section.

It was saying how new members here should read all the old posts because there was a wisdom there that isn't here now.  How the torch is being passed and we should use it well.  I couldnt picture many senior users putting that up but it didnt surprise me there.  I read it as kinda "remember your elders and thank them".  or something like that.. when really I dont think many people here are elders just cus they can kill any demon etc..

There are great peices of advice from back then, but what I find is when a person is new to a place especially a place like this you're amazed how wise people are. I really was when I first came.  I mean especially compared to other boards I went to I thought "these people are really smart".  That was about 7 months ago give or take a few.  But if you're here for a year and a half or more you start being able to criticise whats real from what just sounds good.  Or whats helpful to you.

So I think most look at first discovering these boards as a time when the board was "fresh and full of good advice".  But that doesn't mean there isnt great advice here now.  People like Frank and Ginny, Tom (cant think of names right now) still try to help as much as they can. Timeless helped me a lot but she left mysteriously :(.

Anyway things change because you change. I think a lot of it was blowing a persons own horn.  Reminding everyone who the "senior" members are..

I enjoyed reading all your comments.  I made the mistake of telling my oldest son (age 31) the other day about going out a few weeks ago and he got excited and said I was doing witchcraft and that if God wanted us out-of-body, we wouldn't have physical bodies in the 1st place....in other words, it scared him and he could not receive the information.  I have 2 people I can share the oob's with and any other's I have tried to share with had my son's reaction or they get scared for me and think I've gotten involved with satanic things....never gonna happen.  I know who my Lord and creator is and these oob's explane so much of what I thought were just dreams.  There is just so much more to living in this universe than most people know about and it's like opening a present to find out about it.

sweet_celestial_sounds

I read about half of the posts to "Who to tell?" and I can say for sure I've been in the same boat. Yet I realize that this was MY own un-acceptance of myself and these topics. This stuff is reality, and a higher, greater reality at that! We should stand proud and BE.

This entire planet is full of children, and we are the older kids. WE are the more evolved. WE are the more aware. And how can the world evolve if those that are more evolved hide evolution for fear of ridicule from those in ignorance and less evolved??? What if Einstien and Newton hid the telescope and their theories? What if the Wright Brothers hid their planes? Growth and evolution happen because of the courage people have to step out with the greater and higher reality. At some point all of this will be natural to the world. But it starts with us.

It is their ignorance that causes them to do these things, and their fear that causes them to make jokes, and ridicule, etc. But it must be remembered that they also have a higher self, and also have the potential to OBE, and spiritually evolve, etc. Maybe our purpose is to help them see! And how can we do that if we are hiding the truth!!

Have courage. Have heart. What if Robert Monroe and others held their experiences in private?? These are our inspirations and great sources of knowledge and aid. Stand for what's reality, as it's worth it!! How can this greater reality become normal to earth humans if we don't treat it as if it is a reality???

As I open and share I find that it is getting easier and better. And I am even finding that people that I would never have guessed have had OBEs and stuff, have. I shared with my dad's girlfriend and brother yesterday and found she had several OBEs, and she stumbled upon some techniques in the process even. If you are sure about it, people will sense that and respect that. Why does the bully pick on the fearful? If he's really bad why doesn't he pick on the baddest dude on the block? Because the bully is afraid himself, and has to find someone more afraid than him to use to try to hide his fear. This scares them, and they only put you down to try their best to not face the reality and change. By standing tall we become a light, and allow them to face the reality if they so choose.

There is so much on this I can write. I suggest to do this:

Read the books by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer [Orin and DaBen books.]

Read '4th dimensional relationships' by Germaine channeled through Alyssa Royal. Someone look it up and please post it on the documents section. THIS IS A MUST READ!!! Problem finding it, let me know!!!

Take care.
