Strange feeling when encountering a spirit/ghost

I would just like to get some opinions on a strange feeling I experienced recently.

I was in a reputedly very haunted location, where I have been many times with a few experiences but nothing like this...

I heard banging on the walls of the room, and then heard walking towards me. I could also feel it coming towards me, and then standing right next to me. When it was next to me I then had a strange feeling come over me which I have only felt a few times in my life.

Here is the feeling I have, its VERY hard to describe:

> A sort of paralysing feeling
> A sort of tingling all over my body which felt as if it came in waves, most prominent on my face (eg nose or lips), I think this is because it was really the only part of me that was uncovered.

This feeling got stronger the closer the noises were, and then I felt something physically touch my forehead.

Each time I have not felt threatened or uncomfortable, just this strange feeling which suddenly leaves when the spirit did. I could feel that I was alone when it ended.

What is it? Is it just a normal side effect of encountering a spirit?

Interestingly I have also felt this feeling in dreams, in which I am visiting "haunted locations" and when I feel it, usually start to recite the lords prayer. I am not religious however learnt this when I was young. I thought I should know at least one prayer should I need it... lol

Sorry if this doesn't make sense, its very hard to put into words.

I also get exactly the same fellings as you are describing when I come upon haunted locations in dreams. Sometimes the energy feeling is so strong as to be nearly unbearable.

It does also sound like you are 'sensing' the energies rather than 'seeing' them. This is what I get when I feel 'visitors' around me.

I am no expert, but I am learning to trust my feelings, I would say that you are quite open too.

Thank you for your reply. It is interesting that you too have this feeling in dreams too!

If I hadn't actually had this feeling in real life I would not have thought much of it at all about it happening in a dream. However it was exactly the same, and you're right, it's very overwhelming both whilst dreaming, and in real life too!

I know it is not a result of being scared, or in fear. I was totally at ease in this room before, during and after "it" visited. It's a totally unmistakable feeling.

Oh I forgot to say that every hair on my head stood on end, this feeling too was also like it was moving in waves -- like someone was holding a magnet over me and my hair was moving towards it.

Thanks for sharing your experience Kelly, I think you described it well!

My thoughts about this are that the spirit has sensed your energies and seen you as someone sensitive enough to make contact with, and in such a way as to convey a feeling that they are not hostile.

It is unfortunately a very common mistake, typically brought on by Hollywood, that ghosts that haunt places are malicious poltergeists only out to do harm. This instills a lot of fear in people, and instead of taking the time to find out what the spirit wants, they either run away, or worse, try to get someone to exorcise the spirit. Imagine you are sitting in the loungeroom of your house and someone comes in and tries to force you out of your own home. it would make you pretty irate! That's all that is achieved through excorcisms.

In the case of 99% of all hauntings, it's simply a case of departed souls that are not aware that the physical bodies they inhabited have died. They feel like they are stuck in a dream state, lost and confused. Others can stay around because they feel a strong need to pass on a message to someone. All it takes is someone able to communicate with spirits, someone with a healthy dose of compassion, who can help explain to the spirit that it can cross over, or to pass on a message to someone still in the physical.

Kelly, I think you might have been given an invitation of sorts to either help a departed soul to move on, or pass on a message. What I feel has happened is it has made contact with your energy body, not surprising as this is a being of pure energy itsself. Either way I would trust your intuition that this spirit is friendly, and it would be perfectly safe for you to go back (if you can) and seek further contact.

Hi James,

Thank you for your thoughts. I agree with you. My perception of ghosts or spirits has changed somewhat over the past few months.

I try to think of it as if it was me who is in the situation. If for whatever reason I could not move onto where I should be, I would hope that someone would extend some help to me if they could.

I will definitely be going back, and will try to communicate if possible. I don't know what I could possibly do but will try whatever I can!

There is also another part of this same property which has a negative feeling - I feel that it is someone else who is just generally cranky but does not mean harm.

Yep the first one... "Our Father who Art In Heaven"... The only prayer I know.

I figured that I may as well know one, just in case it came in handy one day, but I seem to only recite it in my dreams when I come across something "evil".

That's interesting. I look forward to coming across some of these 'ghosts' in my dreams when I become lucid, I am beginning to think that they are not 'evil' but 'observers'.

I think that it is my fear of ghosts that has turned them into fearful energies, but as I have come across them more and more, I have been losing the fear and approaching closer (or at least moving past them without freaking out, which is a good step for me!)

I think that James has summed it up very well, these are not always things to be afraid of but it has become scary by things like Hollywood (or religion, good old Catholicism had scared me from this sort of thing for a long time).

This is a very interesting post and a subject I have been interested in.  I felt this energy during the recent paranormal investigation at my house.  It felt like electrical waves of energy that would rise from the feet to the head.  It felt like I could take and hold my arms out to the side, lie back and float.  Meady it is also electromagnetic in nature as the fields rose during this time.  The Spirit communicated through dowsing that he had never been in my home before but knew the researchers would be there that night.  I have also felt this energy in the Astral while flying of floating.  The researched could not stand to be by the energy for too long as the waves were disorienting to a certain degree.  At one point I felt as if I blacked out for a split second and the physic who was there felt as if the Spirit attempted to channel me.

That is EXACTLY it.... I bet if I had my EMF meter right next to me at the time it would have been going off.... not surprisingly, there was an electrical thunderstorm occuring that afternoon/evening, so I knew that there was a good chance that something would happen.

I was thinking about getting a tri Field EMF meter.  A good one is about 200.00 US-. I have read that one person actually uses a meter and communicate with a spirit through it.  The Spirit manipulates the oscillations in the surrounding field and uses the meter for Yes/No questions.  I never really feel the energy except both times that the researchers were at my home.  I believe the Spirit's know this will scare me so they are cautious to avoid this.  They reported one dominate male who is non territorial and was avoiding they and a women who died in the house who stays in the back yard and does not like the male in  the house. The researchers asked me if I did not notice the energy in the past.  I was actually embarrassed and said "Yes", not wanting to admit I could be so ignorant to the presence.  I know last night I replaced 14 light bulbs at my house that have blown out in the last few weeks.

How come it is they seem to touch the third eye, somehow? I've had that same sensation there. Is that just the method of communicatio? Or do the ghosts somehow draw or send energy that way?
