Have you heard of doing a retreat in complete darkness with no contact with other people for over an extended period of time, at least ten days? With no light and no way of keeping track of time, the sleeping and waking states tend to blend together. Dreaming becomes lighter and more conscious while being awake becomes closer to dreaming. It is supposed to be such a powerful experience that preparing for it with some training is advised.

In Swedish it´s called "utesittning" - "sitting outdoors", and is a Scandivavian shamanic technique, used by some of the Swedish magical orders.
I´ve never tried it myself, but as I have a shamanic connection, it would certainly be worthwhile, but only during the warmer months ;)!

To return my original subject of planetary hours, I´ve found some of them to be more pronounced in thieir nature than others; especially the hour of Saturn which slows every magical operation down, the feeling of heaviness is clearly felt.

The best magical hour in my opinion is Luna, Sol, Jupiter and Venus are also good, Mars can be good, but as there are a tendency to rush things, one might miss valid points here. Mercury is a bit indifferent, a bit erratic in nature, though as being a solar Gemini it should be a good hour to work on.

I´ve often pondered the difference between the difference of those planetary hours pertaining to the day (before nightfall) and those to the night (after nightfall).
Rituals etc. are much easier to preform after nightfall, which of course has to do with that the astral currents are more potent, when the moon ascends, as Luna is the channeling sphere of all astral forces (as well the gate to the astral world). Also this means that the Unconscious levels are also more accessible to the ritualist.

Let´s say an adept of a magical order, does he prefer to do all ritual work after nightfall, or are there certain rituals that preferably is performed  before nightfall? Certain astral work seems to be done only after nightfall.

For example the daily planetary hour of Luna is much more potent after nightfall, than the one before nightfal, so if the ritual is one of Luna, the ritualist would do his ritual on the Luna hour (1st of hour of monday, day of Luna), preferably after nightfall .
