Funny, I was just thinking about web-bots not to long before I logged on today.  I read a brief article about them a couple days ago.  

Does anyone have a link to a good site with info on web-bots.  I'm interested in learning some more about them

Very intriguing in many aspects. Going to have to research deeper into it though. It seems to have genuine references attached, but the net is able to build hype for quasi-plausible ideals often, though I do not put it past anyone to have created such technology.
In one source as they say it reads like the I-ching which in certain methods could easily be applicable by computing, but in another aspect the structure of the system it reads by could be countlessly complex, for instance the use of terabytes on a certain regular basis is overwhelming to think about.

Wouldn't it be an appropriate irony that in our age, at this time of events, it is the internet that becomes the known source of delphic insight?

What will be happening?
August 22nd - Day of online direct action a week before the convention

participate in the protests in NYC itself, and to build for the
mainstream electronic sit-in on the 29th.

August 29 - September 2nd - Mainstream electronic sit-in while the RNC
is in session. The actions will commence on noon of each day. The

Isn´t this cyber terrorism?

It is important to make a distinction between electronic civil
disobedience and terrorism. Civil disobedience is a fundamental part of
the democratic process which our country was founded upon. Like Henry
David Thoreau and our revolutionary forefathers who shot up the pigs at
Lexington and Concord, electronic civil disobedience is the logical
continuation of these theories applied towards the internet as a medium
for disruption. ECD is a legitimate protest act.

Terrorism tries to instill fear into people through violence and

... but denial of service attacks isn´t hacking!
DoS attacks are seen as somewhat lame in the hacking community because
it does not require any actual skills to perform such attacks - any
script kiddie can simply download a few tools and launch attacks
against
major servers. It can hardly be considered hacking. But it is a method
of electronic disruption that can bring the enemy´s servers to it´s
knees. No reason to overlook tools at our disposal.
E-MAIL BOMBING

E-mail bomb attacks are done by sending tens of thousands of emails to
the enemy´s contact addresses. This can make it painful to send and
receive emails while simultaneously consuming server resources,
possibly
slowing or shutting it down. There are numerous tools that one can use
to perform such attacks.

Terrorist will paralyze Internet on August 26, a Russian expert in antivirus programs said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the conference hosted by Russian Information Agency Novosti, Aleksandr Gostev from Kaspersky Labs said information on this terrorist attack was published on special websites. He did not elaborate.

First of all, the United States and Western Europe will suffer from the attack, Gostev was quoted by the agency as saying. The head of the labs, Yevgeny Kaspersky, reminded that similar attacks had earlier paralyzed Internet in South Korea. He added that it would be "impossible" to stop terrorist organizations if they "get down to business."

The executive director of Dr.Web antivirus lab, Mikhail Bychinsky, quoted by Lenta.ru web agency said he never heard of such an attack. "I do not believe in mass internet attacks because the main servers are defended, and Kaspersky Labs has been foretelling the doomsday for a long time."

A handful of sites are stating that Eugene Kaspersky, founder of Kaspersky Labs, believes that tomorrow will bring a massive terrorist attack on the Internet. This is being quoted in a range of ways, ranging from factual reporting to citing the story as an example of cyber hysteria.

However, Kaspersky is not predicting the end of the Internet tomorrow - or even in the near future. The story stems from brief comments made yesterday at a press conference which was dedicated to cybercrime and the problems of spam.

At this press conference, Kaspersky commented that the possibility of terrorists using the Internet as a tool to attack certain countries was a reality. As an example, he cited the fact that a number of Arabic and Hebrew language websites contained an announcement of an ´electronic jihad´ against Israel, to start on 26th August 2004.

In an interview today, Kaspersky stressed that such information was not necessarily trustworthy. ´We don´t know who is behind these statements.´ He went on to clarify: ´It´s not the first time the term ´electronic jihad´ has been used. We´ve seen this before, with the focus being on sending racist emails, and defacing and hacking Israeli web sites. But it is the first time I have seen sites encouraging the use of Internet attacks against one country as a form of terrorism.´

´As we´ve already stated many times in the past, it would be easy enough to use a network of infected computers to launch such an attack. We saw the impact that Sasser, Mydoom and Slammer had, on the Internet, businesses and organisations. Just imagine if such an attack was directed at one country or one critical point in the infrastructure of the Internet. Computers are a tool - and just like any tool, they can be used or misused.´

Kaspersky emphasised that the likelihood of a massive attack directed against Israeli institutions tomorrow is low. However, he believes that Pandora´s box has now been opened. Hackers and virus writers can be motivated by a range of factors: money, curiosity, or political conviction. But whatever their motivation, the insecure nature of the Internet and weak security precautions offer a wealth of opportunities. ´Maybe it won´t be tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow - but sooner or later, terrorists will be using the Internet as another weapon in their arsenal.´

There was a part of the most recently posted web bot run over at www.halfpasthuman.com which seems to tie in this morning with the return of Iraq's most influential Shia leader from medical treatment in Britain - Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3596760.stm

Now here's why Sistani's return has my complete and utter attention. From the most recent web bot run, there was an image of a "hermit" kind of fellow returning to the country (which we presumed to be Iraq):

"We note that the entities still show the 'return of a wise man/hermit/sage' to Iraq during this period and the 'rising' of the 'small' in support of the 'daring/adventurers' which will result in the defeat of the USofA army. Now, being a US citizen, and a lifer member of the US military, this is particularly unpleasant news to hear/convey. However, the courageous people of the American Military have been mis-used/wasted by BushCo greed and theocratic self-delusion. As such (nothing begun in evil can end in good), all resolutions lead to the defeat of the American presence in Iraq as it was, and is, mis-guided and a mistake at the behest of evil. So, since no good can come, one can take solice in that defeat/expulsion of the American military from Iraq will at the very least, end the nightmare and prevent Americans from dying for this evil years hence in the future (which is the basic *plan* of TPTB)."

So here's the sequence of events to be watching for if we understand the web bot outputs right:

• Sistani is planning to go to Najaf in the next couple of days.

• The web bot picture has his, essentially saying something like "Enough of this!" and beginning a Shia uprising against American and existing civil authority in Iraq.

• As this happens, the web bots seem to suggest a "retreat to the south" with much loss of life - something that has shown up in earlier web bot runs.
While we have no way of knowing for sure if Sistani is "it" we couldn't help but notice that on an Indian Muslim web site it is noted:

"Grand Ayotallah Ali Hussain Sistani, merjaa ( the sole spokesman and arbiter ) to Iraq's majority Shiias, is almost a hermit who hardly ever ventures out of his abode in Najaf, in the heart of Iraq's Shiia south. Sistani lay low in the early months of the American occupation of Iraq, prompting inspired comments from establishment media gurus in U.S. that he was implicitly condoning the occupation.

There is no doubt that Sistani's religious aura, and the clout he commands among Iraq's Shiia population, did keep Iraq's Shiia-dominated south relatively calm and controlled whilst the so-called Sunni Triangle in the middle and northwest of Iraq imploded into massive defiance and resistance against the Americans. Thus, with language references to Sistani as a near "hermit" and some 80 references to this aspect of his life in a search engine review, LINK, we think watching Sistani very closely should be one of the military's highest priorities. He seems, from one interpretation of the linguistic shifts tracked by the web bots, to have the potential to cause a general uprising and force a U.S. retreat (to the south). If it indeed happens this way, don't blame us. Remember: we tried to sell the technology to the U.S. government (at a very reasonable price) in October of 2001 following our July 2001 run which forecast a world-changing event and even pinpointed Las Vegas more than 45 days ahead of 9/11. Oh well.

Looking ahead, it still looks like the first week of September will be an incredibly busy event cluster. Not only might Iraq be making headlines, but we're looking for some major mis-speaking at the Republic National Convention. We also expect a surprise medical condition to force one key figure to bow out of the race, and there should even be one horrific - public opinion changing - use of excessive force that will horrify both sides and cause police to moderate their use of force from that point forward.

Attacking the internet interferes with our right to free speech.

Terrorists and fanatics of any sort hate any concept of free speech since it interferes with their manipulations of others and the control of information.  It is why dictatorial governments try to limit access to the internet and try to ban it entirely.  

So do the "we" - whoever "they" are that want to hack down sites they don't happen to agree with.  Ironic that these same folks will demand free speech for themselves while denying it to others.  

Either we all have free speech or none of us do. Either we all have the right to have sites on the internet or none of us do.  

Interfering with those rights is not "protest", it is tyrany.  It is an attempt to stop the free flow of information because you don't like the source of it or the content of it.  

Protest is:  I don't like what you have to say.
Tyrany is:  I am not going to let you say it.
Freedom is:  Say whatever you want and allow for others to do the same
Responsibility is:  Do no harm or cause harm to be done to others.

You really have to question the motives of those who want to shut down web sites or the entire internet.  Generally speaking, they are not good ones - "they" want to be in control to the ideas others have access to.

So think twice before you support what "they" want you to do.  In infringing upon the freedom of others, you give up your own.

RNC Outlook:  Health Issue & Confrontation

As the Republican National Convention gets underway today, we're sitting back with a different take on what will transpire this week, thanks to the web bots of www.halfpasthuman.com. We are specifically looking for a series of events including:

   *

     The "takeaways" that the bots suggest we'll have next week might include a widespread recognition that the RNC meeting will be highlighted with a revelation (or revealing act) "Indeed, a failure at multiple levels. As the data set indicates, (all/any)[movement] results in (bound/constrained/frustrated)[desires/goals/efforts]. This is apparently all due to a single instance of the widespread perception of [insincerity]. or [sincerity] that is (inconsistent)."

     We'll also be on the lookout for some talk of disease at a high level "Rather what we have is a lexical structure with words such as [evil], [vile], [foul] and [stagnant] also contains some references to disease. In fact, enough such references to disease appear that the lexical aspect takes its name from that subset. However, this is apparently all about a single [prominent/powerful/public] person being (struck down) by [disease] within the framework of the convention itself. This [disease] subset is cross linked back to (no movement)[facilitates/improves] which suggests that the disease is not something that is treatable."

     We'll also expect that there will be someone involved with the protests, who will arise out of the protester's efforts, perhaps who will be subject to obviously excessive force by authorities - perhaps standing up to authority after being injured ala Tiananmen Square - who will be thrust into the public consciousness: "Rather, there will arise an individual *most hints at this stage suggest a female, youngish - say 20's* who will become the 'poster child' of the (solidarity/cohesive) American resistance movement. We also note that Secretary of State Colin Powell is not planning to attend this year's event.    While most commentary suggests something is akimbo within Republican ranks, what most observers won't tell you is that it has little to do with politics, but more likely everything to do with succession plans.  The worry (although by the bots not justified) is that Powell should be well out of harms way in event of a WMD attack on the convention.



Then there's the RNC playing on the WTC tragedy for political ends: Rudi Giuliani will say:

   "Winston Churchill saw the dangers of Hitler when his opponents and much of the press characterized him as a war-mongering gadfly.

   "Ronald Reagan saw and described the Soviet Union as 'the evil empire' when world opinion accepted it as inevitable and belittled Ronald Reagan's intelligence.

   George W. Bush sees world terrorism for the evil that it is and he will remain consistent to the purpose of defeating it while working to make us ever safer at home."

What would surprise us least?  We can already judge the flavor of the event by reading advance comments at http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040829/nysu027_1.html  Because there will be lots of playing on images of the WTC disaster, one thought is that might backfire and may be part of what the bots pick up as "insincerity".



Our plot for a perfect run?  A Tiananmen square kind of event, a top official revealing untreatable health problems, and a general "backfire" from what we're supposed to see as an emotional event.

I don't know if I should post this here, but since the other thread is (unsurprisingly) out of commission, and I don't feel like starting another one...

It's all over the news right now that during an interview on NBC, Bush made a comment to the effect that the war on terror is "unwinnable."  

Coming from Mister "always sticks to his guns no matter what the consequences might be"?  Coming at a time when the Republicans' biggest accusation against Kerry is that he "flip-flops" too much?  I find this expression of doubt VERY strange.  It's pretty well known how prone Bush is to misspeaking, but I don't think that's what it was, because he didn't correct himself until the feces predictably hit the fan the next day.  I have no idea what to make of this as of now.

Keep yer eyes peeled, friends... this is getting weird.
