Where did we get our astral bodies from?

That depends on which belief system you choose. I prefer the approach starting from the top, that less subtle bodies are a result of constricting and knotting up the higher bodies. Then there is the approach which says that as a result of much effort and time the higher bodies are made from within the lower bodies. Chakras are the knots or connection points between levels.

It is common knownledge that both the concept of the Astral Body and chakra systems are recognized in Hindu spirituality, in the study of Yoga, in Buddhism, In the Hebrew Kaballah (though under different names), and in Chinese Taoism, and in various martial arts (though the Astral body is not mentioned so often, usually it is only the chakras  that are mentioned - i.e. Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Kung-Fu). Christianity also makes reference to Astral bodies in the bible. I believe Robert at one point had a friend that did a study on this (Biblical references regarding the concept of Astral Body).
