June 22, 2005 MSNBC - The Bush administration on Wednesday proposed changing how overfishing is calculated — a move that conservationists fear would mean more, not less, fishing of endangered species.

The proposal would take into account "socio-economic considerations" in deciding when a species is overfished.

Do you know what this means?  The proposed changes include this ruling...
"Councils would end overfishing within the first year of a rebuilding plan, except under certain conditions specified by law in the Magnuson-Stevens Act..."  "These conditions include...the needs of fishing communities."

Certainly, one of the primary needs of fishing communities is to have a stable and healthy supply of fish. I hope you are not reading too much into this.

I would appreciate it if you named your posts to more neutrally represent their content.

I agree.  I made the changes Telos.
