Title: Heart pill to banish bad memories
Post by: Lexy on February 15, 2011, 02:08:47
Scientists believe a common heart medicine may be able to banish fearful memories from the mind.

The Dutch investigators believe beta-blocker drugs could help people suffering from the emotional after-effects of traumatic experiences.

They believe the drug alters how memories are recalled after carrying out the study of 60 people, Nature Neuroscience reports.

But British experts questioned the ethics of tampering with the mind.

Paul Farmer, chief executive of mental health charity Mind, said he was concerned about the "fundamentally pharmacological" approach to people with problems such as phobias and anxiety.

People have been using beta-blockers to help with fear for a long time. I saw a program on PBS a few years ago where they documented public performers, some who were in an orchestra, who were prescribed beta-blockers by their doctors to combat stage fright.

I'm not agreeing with it completely though, I think there are ways to consciously work through fears and reclaim a part of yourself.

You won't be able to banish memories from the mind like that. Sooner or later when you stop taking the numbing chemical, the memories may arise. There aren't even traces of memory or thoughts in the brain so, for all we know, the brain could just be tuning into different frequencies for experience.

There is also a myth going around that cheese gives you nightmares. Not true. Cheese can only help you to prolong your REM sleep and increase the impact of your vivid dreaming because the tryptophan amino acid in them helps to formulate tryptamines such as serotonin, melatonin and DMT. The myth that it causes nightmares comes from the fact that children, who have a tendency to be fearful of things, will manifest their fears during REM sleep and thus their vivid dreams turn into nightmares. The same applies to fearful adults. It is not the cheese giving you nightmares. It is yourself! I have cheese all the time and enjoy vivid dreaming.

Here's what would be another way to cut out fear from your life. Pay a surgeon to remove the amygdala from your brain. Although, you'd have to consider the side-effects of not experiencing the "fight-or-flight" sensation in a world where creatures rely on fast instinct in order to survive.

I'll tell you what these beta-blockers will do. They'll put you in a state of mind where you can pretty much disassociate from everything regardless of whether you deem it to be good or bad. Also, let's not forget that the media don't do scientists any favours as they have a tendency to blow things out of proportion for the sake of sensationalism...

any memory can be taken out of the mind
the Spirit World  play this game with me all the time been years take out names mostly show me a face vision and i try to remember it although they are lucky to get me for a few minutes now it used to be weeks we could get it to go years! although just days ago they got me for half to three quatres of an hour especially with one face but the better ya get the lest effect it has time wise and memory, if someone had a problem where by you did this process you would succeed but when they got good at using their minds abilities it would come back...but then it wouldnt be a problem because by then you learn to master your emotions which just happen to equall energy

which brings me to dementia...i reackon this is easy to fix...my opinion

Doesn't this affect the heart?  And the liver?  And the kidneys?
