Title: "Most Radioactive man in Japan" lives alone in Fukoshima contamination zone
Post by: Stillwater on March 13, 2013, 20:28:11
I thought this was a pretty well-told story. This old man is living 45 miles from the epicentre of the Fukoshima disaster; his entire village was evacuated due to the extreme levels of radiation present; he chose to return to his village alone in order to feed his animals. He felt it was cruel to kill them or allow them all to starve for no reason at all, so he felt forced to forgo his own safety to return and care for them, regardless of the fact that they are of no use to society anymore.

When he was scanned, the doctors claimed that he was the "most radioactive man in Japan", although they also said he might live for another 30 years.

I hope you guys enjoy the piece as much as I did, because I think the journalists did a stellar job covering this vivid character and the remarkable life he lives, and there are quite a few insightful things the man has to say.

That was a haunting video. It looked like a zombie apocalypse on tv which of course, I thought was cool for half a sec. Then I realized how many lives this destroyed and nothing could be more uncool.

The man's outlook and laugh reminded me of my dad. Just a simple hard worker, centered around family.

I admire his take on saving the animals. I'm not there yet as far as my spirituality goes but I'm not doubting that will change in me as well.

Thanks for the link. I am always fascinated by these perspectives.

This guy is a "real Trooper". He gives new meaning to finding "happiness, no matter where you are or what your situation is".

He has a heart of GOLD!  :-)

Many challenges are yet to come... But I guess he has already seen a lot of tragedy. This video made me wanna cry...

Man... "He lied right to the end. That's how brainwashed the Tepco staff are."

"He said I had the highest level in all of Japan, but I wouldn't get sick for another 30-40 years. I'll be dead by then anyway."

And on that note... Visiting Japan in a few weeks :/

My friend Ivan Kovax made that video. He told me that he and his crew we allowed in the zone for 5 hours only and that they all wore full body hazmat radiation suits. I think it is remarkable.
