Hey, this is a link to a story that relates to the Paranormal and is slightly Sci-Fi. I hope that you like it. http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/jdate/a.html
If the rest is as pointless and disgusting as the prologue then reading it is a waste of time. Whoever wrote this has a problem with his sense of humour:
(from the prologue:)
Quote
I reached for the knob at the same moment it began to melt and transform, turning pink and finally taking the shape of a flaccid penis. It flopped softly against the door, like a man was cramming it through the knobhole from the other side.
I turned back to John and said, "that door cannot be opened."
If this was meant to be funny... well, it isn't, it's just pathetic.

Well guess what, it isn't a humor story. If you thought such... let's just end with my saying that I greatly pity you. Literature isn't written for laughs or jokes (mostly), it is written to portray an idea or series of said. If you think that everything written has to be humorous then I wouldn't recommend reading the majority of literature out there.

Of course there are books that have higher meaning(like Franz Kafka's "The Trial" - in my opinion the best book about metaphysics), but what could be meaning of a book with meat monsters, rooms filling up with feces, and doorknob penises? I wonder why you responded to healthly criticism with attack and you are defending this story with such aggresion? I guess that you are the author....
I must admit that the ideas that I saw so far in this story look like they were created by 10 year old child, and author's(your?) writing talent won't help if you won't have more self criticism.
Or maybe it's a current writing trend in US? I guess that my taste is a bit outdated then.

No, I'm sorry, but I'm not the author. In fact, I've never even met the author. Also, no attack was made, only an indication of my pity for you. The story's "height meaning"... it has none. The story was written for enjoyment for the reader, the same as reading any other book... for the love of the story. As for your attack against the writing style, for this story the style works. No two stories can (or should) have the same writing style. How something is written should reflect the story's progression. To attack a "style of writing" is incredibly stupid, not to mention ignorant.

You've made false assumptions, and this clearly a from of attack. When people can't find any holes in someone's logic, they make "artificial"( ;) ) ones.

It is not, but anyway tell me where I said anything about style? Style is nearly okay here(only word "feces" should be used instedad of "s h i t"),but style(type of narration, etc.) is not everything. It won't help if the book contains obscenities like the ones I've mentioned. I don't know if in US it's the same, but in Poland most people get offended/disgusted by things like "penis doorknobs".

No, language choice and selections for description are an important piece in any narrative. An authors diction should be such that it accurately represents the characters in his/her story. Saying that a style of narration isn't everything is a very inaccurate comment.

This sentence can be compared to rococo or baroque artists point of view. Many paintings were done only to show how good the artist is, without any higher meaning or message.
But for what is such painting good for?
There are more important things than narration(of course some level of skill at narration IS required). What would ANY book be without interesting plot or characters or hidden meaning, etc. ? With nothing more than good narration book can only become a demonstration of author's talent, and such demonstration is worthless to the readers. Sometimes even in excellent books narration doesn't have to be good at all, for an example Joseph Conrad's "Heart Of Darkness" or George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and many others.

Not everything is done for a purpose. If everything had to have some "higher purpose" then we'd be spending all of out time analyzing everything. In this world it is a blessing when people write or draw for no other purpose then for their own personal enjoyment, or when people sing solely to showcase their voice.
Yeah... What can you say... Welcome this is the Astral Pulse...
