Hi All,

A member from another forum I moderate at has supplied this information....

"I was working on a friends computer the other day and had to reload windows for them. They baught the computer second hand and although it had windows installed and had the disk, they didnt get the serial number. This is fairly common with second hand computers.

Once you get confident enough to reload windows by your self, it is very easy as a beginner to format your hard drive, only to then find out that you dont have the serial number for windows.

A very useful tool to get now before you even have to format is Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v1.41

I know this sounds like an advertisment but the program is freeware

To quote the program authors description:
Quote:-
"The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry. It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping. It works on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Office 97, and Office XP. This version is a quick update to make it work with Windows Server 2003."

Any computer user should check to see if they have their "legal" serial number for their windows operating system, and if you cant find it, then i suggest you download this program, find your serial number (product key) and write it down in a safe place where you will find it incase you have to format your computer.  Go here to download it....

P.S. You dont always choose to format your hard drive, any number of reasons could call for it, such as deleting something you shouldnt and crashing it, virus's or hardware problems such as hard drives malfuntioning."

Luckily I wrote my number down on the disc, but a lot of people I know didn't keep a record.. so this will help them when the time comes.

I am sure this can be very helpful for many people. Thanks for sharing.

This is one of the good things about Linux. I have never had to worry about serial numbers in all the times I have installed it.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.
