STOP!!!  Backup!

I agree cruelty to animals is a bad thing.  A food chicken has a horrible life (egg chickes worse).

But, you lose all your Karma points today.  You completely missed the whole point....bad bad runlola.

Why did Peta go to KFC?  Does KFC own the farm? Noooooooo.  Where those KFC workers? Noooooooo.  So why?  Better political press coverage. PETA is a political extremist organization, and actually cares very little about animals.  Look at their financials sometime.  They are right down there with other extremist groups.  They 'overlook' an amazing amount of things if there isn't a chance of big press coverage.  It's all about money and political clout.

All the damages in California from wildfires are 98% the result of Eco-nuts and their distorted via of reality.  It's "illegal" to clear brush, so guess what happens every year, brush fires.  Firefighters aren't 'allowed' to use certain streams because they are 'protected'.  But then again people knowingly live in wildfire areas....

Do you know why they started calling themselves KFC instead of Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Their birds are so genetically modified you can hardly call them chickens anymore!

Nay

Hehehe, James but actually they didn't like people saying "fried", ya remember when that whole do not eat fried foods craze happened?

And oh yeah...Mmmmmmmmmmm...fried chicken and mashed taters.[:D]

haha james

I've heard that they add genetic codes into the egg before they are fully developed

and once they are they have like 4 pairs of wings and like 4 legs and other freaky s***.

scientific american has descriptions of the procedures,
opinions are like kittens, just give 'em away

Did you miss the part about a political organizaion.  Ugh, another lost soul.  If you want to do something about animals then go do it, that's NOT PETA's primary function.  Same for the Siera club.

Come on, no one is for cruelty to animals, then since no one is for it, everyone must be against it and with PETA.  It's political suicide to be against PETA.  Hitler would have been very proud of how they are organized.

"and once they are they have like 4 pairs of wings and like 4 legs..."
Hehehe....yes, but those experiments were considered a failure because nobody could catch the little buggers!

The way animals are treated in slaughterhouses is simply disgusting.  I'm not terribly worried about them being killed as long as it is done in a humane manner, but that rarely seems to happen.

jilola

The disturbing bit about the use of animals as food is that they generally die more humanely and under better supervision than many humans do.

The excesses and abhorrent treatment usually occurs during the growing and transportation phases not the actual killing. The reasons as to why boggle the mind. I suppose some people find the animals an easy target for venting their own frustrations and anger.

I think a lot of that comes from the complete disregard many people have for Nature and her resources.

Look at the way the worlds native cultures treat animals and you see something completely different. They revere Nature, and to them the killing of animals for food is something that is done with respect towards the animals whose lives are taken for food and other means.

I know we need to eat, and the logistics of feeding large cities is complex, but the more corporatised food production has become, it seems the more inhumane the food growers have become. It's only a business to them, and they seem to give no respect at all towards the countless lives of the animals that bring them a living.

This was NOT the best thing to come across as I begin to eat lunch.

(The following is not a flame or a goad to an argument, just my personal opinion)

I'm glad they were exposed.  However, I share some of Rastus's view on PETA.  I think they do more harm than good.  Their literature is full of dramatic, overdone rhetoric and comes off as propaganda, which is a red flag to a lot of people who are sick of dealing with politically motivated activist groups.  Often the "research" they rely on is biased and inconclusive.  And I simply cannot forgive their "Your Mommy Kills Animals!" campaign last year, which was so dreadful that I thought it was a joke at first.

It's not that I have a problem with their ideals and message.  I have a problem with their methods, which turn a lot of people off who would otherwise be interested in this cause, as I am.

At any rate, I hope something good comes out of this and KFC pays the price.  I think cruelty to animals should be punishable with prison.  I work in criminal justice research and know exactly how dangerous people who torture animals are.  They usually just get worse.  I hate how our society treats it as a misdemeanor.  It's a damned serious offense.

There are certainly humane ways of slaugtering food animals and I do wish the slaughterhouses in the USA were required to use them.

But PETA isn't really interested in that kind of legislation as they do not want us eating food animals at all.  They are extreme and most of them do have animal products in their homes and their cars and their clothing.  Just another fanatical bunch that sounds good.. who doesn't want the "ethical treatment of animals"?

We all do when we think about it.  We also want cheap chicken, beef and pork products so it is anything goes in the breeding farms and the slaughterhouses.  Not going to change unless we demand better practices - required by the FDA.

Possible solution:  Just buy Kosher meats.  Kosher butchers do not engage in the same kinds of slaughtering practices.

It is not true. PETA is demanding that slaughterhouses adopt controlled-atmosphere killing systems, so chickens would be killed more humanely:

Animal cruelty is a problem everywhere around the world, and it does not only exist in big slaughterhouses, but also in small "ecologic" farms. I've heard that my uncle killed a pig with screwdriver, and this IS an animal welfare problem. I think that the problem is with people not understanding that animal is living and feeling being, and not people venting their frustration and anger. I think that only a psychopath could do the things like on this video.

I know this is a joke, but there's more truth in it that you suppose. I have really small farm with only 3 pigs, and many egg chickens. We do not have meat chickens because a full grown chicken has about 3 times less meat than those grown in professional farms, and it is not even worth killing. On those farms they are probably feeding chickens with some kind of steroids or hormons, because normally it takes 6 months before chicken is grown, and their chickens are grown in 2 months. Then those hormons/steroids accumulate in peoples bodies, and monsters like "a woman weighting 250 kilos" are created.
MEAT=MURDER.

Jenadots

Hi, another issue with the animals is the hormones - steroids - antibiotics the feed lots pump into the animals which are then pumped into our bodies.

As a teacher, I tend to think that the dramatic increase we have in LD and other learning disorders has to do with the increase in this stuff over the past few decades.

Also, the increase in kids going through puberty at 9 and 10 years old.  All those unnatural hormones speed up the process.

All of which the FDA could do something about.  I understand capitalism and profits, but our desire for relatively cheap food is causing many health problems for our us.

Somewhere, there is a balance between the extremists of the PETA group that see us as a pest on the planet, and the anything for a buck philosophy that has led to the way food animals are raised and butchered.

Unfortunately, the big money lobbyists have much more influence than the rest of us in DC and the folks who could legislate some reasonable, and humane, regulations.

As for their "fur" agenda, well I would never wear a coat made out of the fur of a wild animal.  But it sure would be nice to have a good warm farm raised fur for the big wind chills here in the winter. But those are too pricey for me.

Although, I have a fake fur jacket and that seems just as warm so I do agree with them that there are good alternatives to the fur of an animal.

Some of the PETA women sure do like their  pricey leather handbags, tho.  They always say that's different, but I don't see how.

Perhaps, some of these things will change in the new century.

FistOfFury

So, why don't they whine when plants get killed, thrown, stepped on, and eaten? They're living things too you know, and I've heard that they have souls too, complete with feelings and everything. I wish someone would make a PETA parody site where it talks about plant cruelty, and then at the end of every article theres a link that says to help save the plants by starting your carnivore diet today, and to download the carnivorous guide.

Anyway, about the chickens and other animal cruelty, it pisses me off to see how some people act, it just makes me want to go up to them and punch their lights out, to give 'em a taste of their own medicine for being such inconsiderate jerks.
