Thanks for the article, and it is interesting to note astronomical happenings! [:)] There are some members who may go a little manic when they read what year the next alignment is. [;)]
A wild guess: 2012?

Anyone know any websites that will be webcasting the VT?
I'm presently in western Canada, so I wont be privileged to see this phenonemon.

Same with me.
The news channels are repeating images of this so should be able to catch a view that way. Often NASA and ESA will use space based equipment to take images so these may be available on their sites, try JPL.
I took a couple of peaks using binoculars to project onto white paper. Saw a spot :)
Also http://www.spaceweather.com/ has pics.
Maybe it is a good sign. [:)]

It is no coincidence, they say, that the Mayan calendar allegedly 'comes to an end' in 2012. It is based, very specifically, on the Venus cycle - and the way it tends to repeat itself in eight-year intervals. According to those who still believe in the ancient Mayan vision, 2012 will be when the Venus-god Quetzcoatl returns to ask the inhabitants of the earth, one last time, whether they are yet ready to create a paradise - or whether they want to remain in the same old self-created hell of mutual hatred. How true is all this? Well, it is, if nothing else, something to dwell on as we muse and meditate, this morning on the rare sight in our sky. It is not, though, the only way to interpret the rare astrological event. Other astrologers, as you can see elsewhere on this page, have their views about what it all means. Most agree that it is about love - and some too, say it has to do with increased prosperity for all - but the majority, myself included, want to reserve judgment for a while. First, we need to observe the event. Then, we need to digest it. Gradually then, we will reach a concensus or conclusions about how it should be interpreted. But on one point at least, we are all, already, agreed. In so far as one event can ever be good news for the whole human race. This one can! And as you may yet discover this very day, the good news for us all is not as far away as some folk seem to think!
Here is what several other leading astrologers have to say about the significance of today's big event:
Debbie Frank: "Venus will shake up our lives with far-reaching effects. For individuals it will mean the chance to start a new cycle of love and loving. In terms of the world, it's a time to acknowledge the feminine forces, in other words 'look out boys... the girls are back in town'. We have to tune in to the inner significance and be ready to make certain changes in our lives. The more open we are the more we have to gain."
Bernard Fitzwalter: "The transit takes place in Gemini, so it portends benign things, and suggests two people being brought together for a good purpose. In the very short-term, expect a major 'wedding of the year' announcement; in the medium term, expect a surprising treaty, North and South Korea come to mind. Previous transit pairs have come at times of breakthrough in trade, communications and technology. So, in the longer term, expect a huge step forward with a major discovery of a new energy source."
Russell Grant: "Expect this Venus transit to restore balance – perhaps checking the rise in religious fundamentalism, the rise in American domination and the rise in pollution. I also expect the first female President of the USA to be elected around this time. And if Venus transit of the late 19th Century was about cashing in on oil (Venus's money role) then this one could be about it running out. Venus brings harmony so discord is out and concord is in. For all, this will be a time of significant psychological change. Love, money and beauty all combine so follow your heart to secure your crock of gold!"
The thing about the Mayan calendar ending in 2012 - you know it had to end some time and I bet whenever it did people would be making a big deal out of it. I can imagine some poor overworked Mayan thinking 'I just can't be bothered to do any more of this' or maybe his abacus broke, or maybe he just thought that nobody would care in 2012 and they'd have a bigger abacus that could do it better. I'm off down the swamp to lick one of those psychaedelic frogs.[:P]

They had a slightly quirky counting system using base 20 for three of four columns, the third column held a max number of 360 rather than 400 making simple addition quirky. This is thought to be due to attempting to represent days in a year.
Someone mentioned this before saying 'it may herald the start of a more enlightened age'
Anyway Venus lines up with the sun tomorrow, next one's in 2012
