Hi Jim!

Thanks for sharing, enjoyed reading about your experience. The first thing that comes to mind is the importance of bringing your chi/energy down to your lower Tan Tien (center/chakra behind and a bit below the navel, inside your body) and storing it there.. I don't know if that is already apart of NEW as I am just at the beginning of the book, but that is key as well as massaging your head after any energy practise to release stagnant/excessive chi that may be trapped there and causing harm. So I'd definitely try that and see if that resolved the problem. Hope that helps.

Nay

HI!  I got a headache once too..ugh.  I know I was straining too hard when going for OOB..

Interesting thing I have found, is that I have gotten very good at opening my third eye chakra (I even see a wonderful vibrant purple when it is open) BUT I did not know that you should close your chakra's when done because if you leave yourself open it can get very draining.  So, if I fall asleep before doing so, I close them when I wake up.  I have no idea if this is the headache problem, but I haven't had any since then..

Hope this helps and hopefully more ppl will comment.

I'm partially color blind but I too have seen a blue tint with some cloud shapes in it. I saw it in a view like that of a hawk or eagle(which we have a lot of down here in florida) it was very astounding to the point I once again got too excited and lost it.

Just so you know birds of prey see like this.

(ultra wide perspective(medium perspective(binocular vision)))

Its not the first time I've done that with my vision though.

"I spent several hours in a deep trance state." - man, this is hardcore! How many years have you been practicing meditation to achieve that?

Getting to, and remaining for mere 2 minutes in deep trance without becoming too awake or falling asleep is an extremely difficult task for me. I thought it was normal; to quote R.B., "It is very difficult to get into the deep-trance state, even deliberately. It could not reasonably be expected to happen spontaneously or accidentally to one who has not yet mastered the full-trance state." And I'm by no means a master.

Omni, how about some tips from a pro to a newbie?

I am by no means a 'pro' but I have had a good history with meditation and trance. I actually have a VERY short attention span, and never really got along with anyone in school, usually getting made fun of, into fights and picked on. My homeroom teacher noticed this and started inviting me to stay after school with her since she lived right down the street from me and took me home when she was done working. We usually spent the time working but at least once a week her girlfriend (she was lesbian) would come to my school right after her college courses and she was studying bhuddism. After she came to our class and gave a presentation (about bhuddism) she took notice in me and how quickly I seemed to take to the meditation process and had since taught me much more. This opened my eyes to meditation, bhuddism, and shamanism long before I even learned of OBE's.

For the most part I just make sure above all that I'm comfertable and even though its not recommended get in the same position on my bed that I do when I sleep. I begin to focus on my body parts one at a time (my arms first because they are quickest to react, then legs, then head, then torso) and 'breathe into them' using the method of imagening the color smoke of my choice commming into my body on each inhale, and replacing black smoke that pours from my body on each exhale. After doing that I usually go back through and in the same order make sure I acknowledge how good my body feels and how comfertable and relaxed I am. Until I can feel the tingly feeling throughout the entire limb I don't move on. Once I get done with that I just calmly talk to myself (mentally although it sounds as if I'm talking alout to me) and ensure I feel calm, relaxed, and I use a lot of affirmations that my body is feeling as good as possible. There are so many different things I do and variations of the methods I use (most I made up myself since I'm not really good at following instructions from other people) that it'd take an eternity to name them all.

However one I do a lot is imagine physical contact (depending on my level at this point) sometimes I admittingly imagine my girlfriend is with me, I don't get all into it but rather a very slow soft scenario (not actually moving though, still just imagining) or I take my 'hands' (the hands refered to in the NEW System) and slide them across my face. (This is how I usually start getting a lot of my vision)

Another I do to help my energy flow evenly throughout my body is I focus a lot on the secondary energy centers at my feet and palms, and I will pull the energy from my feet directly into my naval area however the energy from my hands I pull up each side of my neck and the sides of my head (next to my ears) and follow the contour of my head around and over the top of my head but circle down across my brow and down to my naval. Its really hard to explain, you can take one of the many diagrams of suggested energy paths that flow through the head but take a detour across the front of your face (the place where I have the most trouble getting sensation) and down.

(I just wanted to quickly add this after I re-read what I wrote) I don't really recommend transferring the energy in the same pattern I did since it crosses the brow right at one of the main storage areas and direct contact with it is said to drain your energy for some reason. I thought of that after-the-fact however I plan on researching that a little better since it seemed to help me so tremendously.

I was actually more interested in the aspects of staying in deep trance for prolonged period of time, as opposed to preliminary energy-work related issues.

DT is characterized by continuous feel falling/floating, partial/full paralysis, very apparent energy movement sensations (as oppsed to tingling associated with normal trance), and zero-thought.

If I stop thinking, I fall asleep within several minutes or less. If I start thinking, I snap back to light or normal trance. So the main question is: how do you stay there for long time without thinking and not falling asleep?

Omnigod0101

I used to dwell on the thought of 'not thinking' and I too consistantly fell asleep. And very more often just COULDN'T stop thinking. I always had somethin to think about. However I've done a lot of reading on that issue and have found a new definition to 'not thinking' and so far has worked fine for me. The trick isn't to 'stop thinking' but to stick to one train of thought. Focus on one thing. Something that you like, that appeals to you, and you can focus on. Other thoughts will come into your head but thats ok, your mind is like a child, you can't expect everything out of it without conditioning. So when your child is caught wandering in other thoughts simply pat it on the butt and bring it back on track. After a few attempts it will become gradually easier. Once your bored or finished with a focus or topic go to something new. No drastic changes, and nothing too wild. Thats why I usually focus generally on my body and the feelings I'm experiencing. I've had a lot of practice since I tend to tune everything in the world out other than what ever has my interest. My mind is like a very small child that's constantly pointing and screaming, WHATS THAT!? WHATS IT DO!? So I spend a lot of my time focusing on something (my body) and observing/disecting it with my mind.

The symptoms I feel are very similar except for the 'zero thought'. I feel as if my body is inside a glove that is a little too big for it. (Tight around my body but still spacious) If I focus on trying to move my body it takes quite a bit of effort (A good example of this is to clench your 4 fingers (not thumb) into your palm as hard as you can for 30 seconds and then try to extend them very slowly. If you REALLY try you can extend them but its rapid and uncontrolled, but slow movement is next to impossible without unnusual amounts of force.) The energy movement is there and much more than usual. You still have the minor vibrations but where ever my body comes in physical with anything else (the bed I'm laying on) the feeling is stronger almost like when you stick a 9v battery on your tongue (only no sharp pain [:O]) My heartbeat pounds much harder and you can feel every beat, it has slowed back down from the rapid pace it is at lower levels and the thumping feeling you get inside is more concentrated in your torso, thighs, upper arms and head. The falling feeling for me feels more like a consistant slide. For me it feels more like I'm being pulled at a rapid pace in one or multiple horizontal direction(s) at once. At first its almost enough to make you sick but after a while you learn to expect it and it becomes rather fun. I've even learned to will it in one direction or another (whatever makes you comfertable)

General symptoms are the same but everyone describes things differently based on personal experience. I hope this was of some help, although like I said don't take me for a trance guru.

I've been reading a lot of different peoples posts and such about meditation, obe's, a/p's and energy development. Very excited and very confident I rushed home yesterday to begin my practices once more. Left unsuccessful however still full of hope I spent several hours in a deep trance state. For the first half I tried vigerously to enter an OBE however after some time I decided it was enough for the day and simply took the opportunity to observe my current conditions and the things I was experiencing. My body tingled all over and any part of me that came in contact with something else was doubled in sensation. My heart was beating regular pace however I could feel it as if it were surging throughout my entire body in the thick of my flesh. (torso, head, thighs, and upper arms), I was in complete relaxation and I was able to hear my two roomates walking up the stares to our apartment 3 stories down as if they were right next to me. I also spent some time yesterday with the New Energy Ways (N.E.W. System) and noticed that a lot of the excersises were familiar in that I've done them before without knowing what I was really doing, feeling engergy build-up and MBA. (Just playing with my body when I was bored at work/school)

Now's where the worry comes in though. No more than a few minutes afterward I was left with the most painfull headache I've ever experienced in my life. If anything I'd say I overworked myself, nothing too uncommon with me and I'm going to have to keep an eye on how much I practice this stuff. The rest of the day and into the night yesterday I was in almost unbearable pain, and still today I have a minor pulse feeling bursting inside my skull every second making for a quick dizzy spell. However other than that I feel absolutly amazing! My feet, and hands tingle every time they come in contact with anything (secondary energy centers) My ability to see auras is a lot stronger than normal, and I just feel physically more alive than usual. If there are any warnings besides the obvious being carefull not to over do it with my energy and obe practice, please let me know. But otherwise, I'm very happy with the way things are going.
