Greetings,

I have lived in Vancouver, Canada, most of my life. That is where Eckhart Tolle has resided for the past 10 years or so. He wrote his book, The Power of Now, about 8 years ago. I was involved in a spiritual group at that time and his book, The Power of Now, was part of our discussions.

I was waiting for my vehicle to be serviced two days ago, just hanging out at the mall, when I was guided to the bookstore with the purpose of purchasing his new book, A New Earth. If you have not read it, and are interested in the spiritual path, I highly recommend it. I strongly believe there is direct connection to the astral body/out-of-body experience. This post will address it.

I dove right into the book and by the next afternoon had completed the 300 or so pages. It was transformational.

The idea of our ego being completely absorbed in the past and the future made total sense. The challenge to live in the present moment was clear. The past conglomeration of all that makes up who we think we are, ego, he makes reference to when talking about the pain-body. I could totally relate to that idea. The ego's obsession with the future is equally understandable. The ego is quite threatened by Being in the present moment; it loses it's opportunity to identify with anything when consciousness focuses on the here and the now, just as it is, with total acceptance and void of thought. The pain-body is filled with energy. When one is living in the moment, the energy of the pain-body transforms into Presence.

I have been working with the book, Mastering Astral Projection, by Robert Bruce and Brian Mercer, and have been quite in touch with the inner body awareness or the subtle body or energy body. I am now on Week 6 of the workbook. With this new found energy, from negating the pain-body story, immense energy has been transferred to the subtle body structure. Instead of feeling energy in just my hands or legs or heart center, I have become aware of the tangible sensation of energy within my entire body. But it goes further.

As described in Eckhart's book, when we look at the night sky and see the stars, there is also an immense amount of empty space. That vast space is the infinite un-manifest. It can be Felt as consciousness through awareness. By living in the moment, the ego dissolves because our Attention is focused on Now. What experiences the present moment, is the awareness of being aware. Our identification is with the awareness and awareness or consciousness is the totality of empty space. We become that space, that awareness, that consciousness, and not the ego; who we think we are. The I AM is who we truly are.

Taking this concept of empty space one step further, our bodies, and all matter, are actually made up primarily of empty space. The atom, the space within the atom and all the space around the atom is made up of space. Our bodies are 99.99% space. So matter is merely the manifest; behind all matter is infinite un-manifest, space. So if we can live in the moment and fully identify with the space within us, and in all things, and in the endless universe, and relate to that, and not the small ego and its story, we connect with the whole; that which we are in reality - the infinite eternal.

Time is also an illusion; past and future are only constructs the mind creates. Everything is actually happening in the present moment, the eternal now.

The infinite eternal is the ultimate answer when asked, "Who Am I?"

This is the nutshell of what I have grasped by reading the book. Of course Eckhart Tolle describes it in a clear and thorough fashion, with elegance and intelligence. If the words you have read in my post have triggered interest, I strongly suggest you get the book. Read it and come back here for discussion. Ultimately, we can use the concepts in the book to address the out-of-body state and the elements of consciousness.

Be well,

Don

The Present Moment

I got about halfway through The Power of Now before deciding it wasn't for me. I Am That is similar, but more dense and (IMO) more elucidating.

Hey The Present Moment,

I am checking out your link to, I Am That. So far it is very detailed and rings true; also very deep, yet still palatable. I thank you for the link.

I'll definitely check out this new book.  I read The Power of Now a few years ago.  It put me in a totally different state of mind.  Suddenly Earth was Heaven.  I could walk down the road and feel awe and love for every living thing.  I specifically remember being surprised that the usual 'judgement' of people's physical appearance had completely gone. Instead, I was looking at highly sophisticated beings on the street. It was a beautiful state of being.  Then I came back down to earth.  I'll read this new book, hopefully it will send me back to that heavenly state - thanks for recommendation.

Hey Venus,

That state of awareness you were talking about after reading, The Power of Now, is something I too felt after reading it a few years ago. And it was temporary for me too.

A New Earth, has created a much more dramatic and permanent shift in awareness; a fundamental transformation.

Get it, read it, awaken.

Hey, are you all aware that Eckhart Tolle is currently doing a free, online 10-week seminar with Oprah?  Each week they deal with a new chapter in "A New Earth".  Oprah was so amazed after reading this book, that she got together with Eckhart and has offered this course, free of charge.  It runs each Monday at 6PM Pacific time, and this coming Monday will be week #5, although all of the previous weeks are available for free download off of Oprah's site, so you won't miss anything.  It is really excellent and I recommend you all take a look at it.   If you go to www.oprah.com all the details are there.  Enjoy!

I struggle with the idea of time being an "Eternal Now". We as humans perceive time based on sequential events. What benefit is there in understanding time as a long, stretched-out "NOW"? I may already know the answer, but a different perspective on this would be nice.

Also, the adjective Eternal signifies a length of time. Why not just say there was no beginning (to the totality of existence) and there will be no end? I don't know.. my thoughts are jumbled right now.. I can't sort through them.

Stookie

That's the funny thing about the "Eternal Now" - it can't be comprehended, only experienced. Our brains and thinking work with our senses through electrical impulses that have to "travel" from one area to another through "space". Space and Time are inseparable. The "Eternal Now" is void of space and time, so it can't be physically experienced. You have to transcend physical/brain consciousness.

I agree with Stookie. Living in the present moment has to be experienced. It is explained elegantly by Eckhart Tolle in his book, A New Earth. He puts it into words that make sense. I could not begin to explain it. His ability to articulate complex concepts is masterful. I highly recommend you get the book.
