Title: ABC Nightline's "Beyone Belief" OBE"s review
Post by: Lionheart on August 04, 2011, 00:11:59
Tonight on ABC there was a program named Nightline-Beyond Belief. It was an hour news program on OBEs mostly due to NDEs. It was an interesting hour to say the least. It started with Bob Woodruff (the reporter that almost died due to a bomb blast), talking about his own NDE and what he had seen. Most of the show was about people in the BST. There was also a piece in there about a scientist who has started a study on OBEs by putting pictures at higher levels in rooms where people normally have cardiac arrests. They could only be viewed by someone that would be looking down on themselves during an OBE.
I was waiting patiently for them to start talking about TMI or phasing technique, but no dice. Anyways, it was nice to see a program during primetime viewing even try to expalin what is going on.
What did you think. If you missed it I am sure it will be replayed on Hulu.com in the near future.

Yeah, for some reason, I think our culture is FAR more prepared to accept the idea of NDE than it can ever be to accept the idea of induced OBE; I think there are several reasons for that.

The first may be that NDE happen spontaneously, without any help from the person, whereas most OBE require "spooky" mystical, fringe techniques to induce. NDE also tend to play into the Abrahamic mythos that dominates most of our culture, since many people see scenes and events from those cultural myths played out. Diametrically opposed to this, yet still relavent, is also the idea that since NDE happen at a time of possible imminent death (obviously, haha  ) they are easier for materialist-types to write off as wacky brain chemistry firing all kinds of crazy.

When you start talking OBE to many people, the New Age filter is the lens that they see things through, and they can only half-hear you over "The Age of Aquarius" playing in their head.

So yeah... what we do is too fringe-seeming for cultural prejudices to get past.

I actually liked this video of Astral Projection being introduced in a somewhat cartoon version much better. Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/user/jordanduchnycz#p/u/5/QqVV2u_1ADA, check out his video found there on Meditations first though, since it gives a precursor to his Astral video. He speaks of Robert Monroe, Binaural beats even a site I had never heard of before named I-Dozer.com. If you get a chance you can view all his science videos, Meditations is #8 in the series and Astral Projection #9. Meditations and Astral Projection are great videos for beginners.

Yup agreed. A lot of people actually get angry when I talk about t he laws of attraction, as they don't want to believe it. They don't agree with it. Some people think that we are meddling in stuff we shouldnt be and as such are opposed to it. Some people just have absolutely no concept of alternate states of conciousness. They are either awake, or asleep and dreaming.

You can educate people about this if they have an open mind. But its up to them as to whether to believe in it or not. You cant force it upon them.  We'd be no better than religious nuts if tried to do that.

I quite like the fact that this isn't mainstream knowledge.  What I dont like is that I still cant induce an OBE whenever i want, as I do not have a natural talent for it :( But I do understand all the theory.

I watched "Beyond Belief" last night and was disappointed (but not surprised) they don't talk about OOBEs outside of NDEs. Closest I've seen is the brilliant movie "Waking Life" but it's not a documentary. Maybe I'll get around to making one some day since I have a background producing short and long-form films but it would likely be a labor of love, not a money-maker.
