Hi all I have been thinking about the biology of AP (AKA Astral Projection). We all know that you can't sleep unless you have certain hormones or neurotransmitters at work to help you do that like melatonin, serotonin, even testosterone and progesterone can help with this. Certain herbs and mushrooms can drugs can bring you into another dimension. Acetylcholine is known to help with dreaming. All these things have different effects on the body brain and mind. My question is what is your experience with the biology of AP or having an OBE? Has any substance helped you AP, or OBE? Thanks.

As far as I'm concerned anything you do to the physical body only acts as a filter to your perceptions during a Projection.
The act itself is a natural manifestation of being a point of consciousness.

So with that said, as such, there is no such thing as "Biology" of Astral Projection ... in my opinion.

That is partially true. If I have insomnia and I take an herb like ashwagandha to help me sleep even though it will help me sleep and potentially increase my chance of having an OBE. Ashwagandha has other great mind body benefits too.

david14433

Correct me if I am wrong but it that where entirely true then someone could astral project while awake.

We call them, "conscious exits"  :)

Wow! Can you walk around and do this or do you have to be relaxed or sitting down?

Ah, now you're asking something different!  ;)

When we project, we're perfectly awake. Wide awake actually.
But our BODIES are not.

However...
To answer your second question, I do believe it is possible to project even while your body is wide awake.
It's only a theory, but I do believe it's possible.

I know this is off topic but how do you use consciousness only to project? Or what do you look for?

Sounds like someone wants to know about Franks Phasing Model!

That might not answer your questions...
The short answer is that *YOU* are not your physical body... *YOU* are consciousness. :)

Dear david14433,

the practice of meditation has been widely known to change brain chemistry (raise melatonin levels).
So it appears that the brain will to some extend adjust to the rider's will.
I have often while meditating during the day experienced my brain shifting gears from wide-awake to shutdown mode. It happens usually after 30-60 minutes uninterupted practice.
When the astral rider is not seated in the body for whatever reason while the body is still alive, the body will remain in a state of coma until a rider enters. This goes to show that the body needs in it a seated rider in order to animate it.

I don't like to use substances as aid due to the strong dependance factor.

Dimethyltriptamine and 5meo-DMT are the chemicals most associated with astral projection as far as i am aware.

Paul

I heard on Coast to Coast AM I think about a person who had an OBE when he was 4. His parents had told him that it was dangerous to walk close to the pool if he fell. But yet he walked close to the pool, fell, and instantly left his body. I have a hypothesis his Subconscious was strongly programmed that he would die if he fell so he instantly left his body (like we do when we die) when he fell. Young childrens subconscious is very open to programming like that and they believe everything their parents say.

SO, if someone would program their own subconscious like that which is almost impossible to do unless you're young like this boy was, then one could instantly project almost any time I believe. Kids are incredible when it comes to this.
First and only (classic) OBE so far: 12th August 2009
LDs: Once per week :)

Thanks all you. All this is very fascinating. Do you think if someone has a physical distraction like tinnitus (ringing in the ears) like I do. That tinnitus would hold them back from AP. Thanks.

Dear david14433,

the answer should be obvious. It is of course only your attitude that'll decide if it'll distract you or not.

I sometimes use my tinnitus as a point of concentration but I don't like to use it a lot because my preferred focus is void, nothingness, mental vacuum, desire/expectation-free, zen  :-)

Farther

I agree with not depending on substances to AP; however, I have found it a whole lot easier for me to leave my physical body after using cannabis. If you're not into that, that's great. I'm just saying what helps me. I practice AP-ing while at my desk at work. I've been conscious and projected a little bit. It was very weak however. I could see how with practice it's possible.
