Alezunde,
I sympathize with your predicament. What you are trying to do is no easy task. Have you read the book?, did you follow the instructions?. I finally was able to get off the ground after reading "OBE for Dummies-10 easy lessons-". Good luck!

When your mind is in a state somewhere between sleeping and waking, you have an opportunity to OBE. Problem is, 99.9% of the time, your mind is "asleep" at this point.
You have to somehow keep it awake. The exercise you were doing is a good one. Keep practising, it may take some time.
You'll get to a stage where you think that you are making progress - you'll think "wow, something happened !! I'm getting somewhere !!" these thoughts / emotions will wake you up, and ruin it - this'll happen often. You have to sit back and let it happen, (but don't fall asleep).
Alternatively, you can hope that at some point during your sleep, your mind will reach the "OBE point" again, and will wake up. You can improve your chances of this happening by :
1) giving yourself suggestions before sleep, e.g. "I will wake up in an OBE"
2) waking in the night e.g. 4am, have a drink, go to the loo, then practise.
3) lie down for a nap at the weekend at a quiet time when you wouldn't normally sleep.
Remember that opinions over OBE's and techniques are not clear. For example, I believe that dreams - lucid dreams - OBE are different gradations of exactly the same thing. Other people believe that OBE's and lucid dreams are completely seperate.
Keep practising ! I have been practising on and off for over a year, with some successes along the way.

Lastnight I was lying in my bed trying to induce an OBE, and I wasn't doing it in the way I had tried before. (I've never been successful.)
Instead of trying to quiet my surface mind I was simply focusing on trying to rise up out of my physical body - imagining I was light as a feather and imagining myself simply floating up.
My body started feeling extremely heavy, as if I was weighted down then I tried diferent times to lift different limbs out of my physical body. Whatever limb I tried to lift started tingling, and when I tried to lift my whole body out, I felt like I was spinning.
Finally I gave up and went to sleep.
Was I close to getting OB?
And are there any tips anybody could give me to help me along...?
Much appreciated! Thanx!
