hypnagogic side effects?

So recently during some of my interrupted experiments while attempting OBE's, I wake up and see awkward flashes of color, light. Sometimes very organic shapes, like spider-like shapes or eyes.

I'm familiar with how the hypnagogic state caries over dream experiences into the perceived physical world. An example of this...  I have had had dreams where sounds I have heard in a dream linger on for many seconds while I am completely wide awake. The same thing can happen with images as well. I believe this is a completely natural phenomenon as our brain frequency goes through transitions...

The differentiation here is that: when waking from an OBE, I tend to see more organic shapes. Things pulsing, waving. In one experience, I almost perceived what felt like a preying mantis with octopus limbs. It was sort of a flower and a bug attached to the door. Lasted for many seconds while I was wide awake.

Does anyone else ever see wierd shapes, figures for a few seconds after being fully awake (sitting up in their bed)? It always subsides after 10-30 seconds.

Weird shapes and strange flashes of lights are normal Hypnogogic experiences.

Yes, they are more abstract than  hypnagogics (they're hypnopomps), and chances are that they are 'made' somewhere different in the pineal gland or the visual cortex.  I call them 'vision screens', as opposed to 'hypnagogics' or 'remote viewing', which usually happen when I'm going into trance.

Your hypnopompic hallucinations are quite common. I have experienced very similar things -- spiders, things that look like rock golems, etc. Once you get past being a bit "frightened" by what you are seeing, feel free to get up and run after whatever you see. This will quickly cause the hallucination to disperse. Or you could be like me, and just sit still and watch what you see.

As far as CFTraveler states -- I agree. The only reason I say I agree is because sometimes the hallucination will seem within a fixed area or coming from the ceiling or walls. Quite interesting though. I've had some last as long as 2 minutes.

Wow I have never had them last that long but maybe 30+ seconds.interesting I Have had them remain in the same relative space also. I wonder if that means they "exist In the astral". Meh who knows?
