Frozen Spirit

I just want to introduce myself before I get to a question I have.  My name is Tyson, I'm 20 years old and I'm an avid lucid dreamer.  I've been lucid dreaming for about a year and a half now and I'm looking to expand my horizons into the world of OBE's.  Now, I have tended to stray away from websites that dwell with psychic development, primarily due to the mass amount of adolescents trying to give advice on subjects they have no expertise in, but I'm going out on a long shot here.  I hope I didn't offend anyone with that and I apologize if I did, I've just had bad past experiences with websites/forums with subject matter such as this.

Well anyway, here's my dilemma, I've been trying out various projection techniques(rope climbing, body rising, etc) and have been incorporating them with my focus techniques before bed.  Let me explain my focus technique briefly.  When I am lying in bed, I will keep my eyes open, not forcefully, but gently and look upwards.  And as my eyes get heavier and heavier, I will gently keep opening them, until I forcefully lose consciousness.  This is the technique I use for lucid dreaming and works very well for me.  Now, how I incorporate this into my projection technique is, I will keep my eyes open until I feel them getting heavy, this is usually when I get the floating feeling going on(which we all experience before falling asleep).  At this point, I don't open my eyes back up, but I keep them closed and begin my projection procedure.  I usually feel the "vibrations" many, many individuals have talked about fairly quickly and then comes my issue.  My leg muscles will just begin twitching, not violently, or swiftly, but enough to throw my attention away and cause me to lose the vibrations completely and then causing me to fall asleep.

I've also tried this at other times during the day and not before bed, but the twitches seem to be a problem at all times.  I have tried various relaxation techniques and many them have helped in a very nominal way, but nothing enough for me to keep my focus when the twitches begin.  My question is, is this a normal occurrence and if so, how can it be worked past?

I have a journal of nearly all my projection attempts written in a notebook and I can provide them to you for additional information if need be(just kind of a nuisance to type up, ya know?).  Any help would be appreciated and I will be more than happy to answer any questions anyone may have for me.  Thank you! :)
