Although you're on the right track, you still need to "let go" of a lot of things.  You're still too focused on your physical/astral body.

A lot of people think that when they try to project, they need to focus on their ASTRAL body instead of their physical.  From my experiences, this is probably not the best thing to do.

"Why?"

Because when you try to focus on ANY body part, you end up drawing attention to your physical body.  After all, most of us automatically think in terms of the physical because we have been brought up that way.  So when laying there, trying to focus on your astral arms, what is  really happening is that your mind is saying, "Hey, I think I feel my astral arm.  Or is that my physical arm?  No, it's definately my astral arm!"  You see, you end up keeping the thought of your physical body at the forefront of your mind.

The key is to relax all of your body, and then calm your mind.  With a calm mind and relaxed body, you can focus your thoughts on a single point of awareness (like a shape behind your closed eyes, a ringing sound in your ears, etc.)

Hope that makes a little more sense.....

Jeff, about that ringing sound in the ears.  Can that actually be used for anything?

Yes, it can.  Like I mentioned before, some people will use that ringing sound as a thing to focus on.  By focusing on the ringing sound, they move their awareness away from the physical body and onto something else.

Personally, I am more of a visual person, so I don't use this technique.  But it CAN help you to focus on one thing instead of letting your mind flutter all over the place.

Hello,
First, I would like to say thanks for all of the great messages on the board.
I have recently been trying to project by moving my astral arms while in trace, and using them to pull myself out of body, rather than putting pressure on my astral body (putting pressure on the astral body is really easy for me, but it makes me hold my breath and tense my muscles, preventing exit, how can I avoid this?). As for the astral arms method, I can get into trace OK, but apparently to release your astral arms you need to feel swolen then put your awareness in an arm and try to move it.  I dont really feel swolen, when does this happen? And when I try to move my astral arms i either move my physical arms or just feel a kind of pressure on my arm.  What should I do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
