I haven't had enough self induced OBE's to comment, but it's a cool concept.
I havent personally experienced the sounds yet but have the vibrations. I can speed them up and slow them down but never do I hear anything. I'm also a newbie so for what's it's worth....

How did you get to this "void", personally i always end up somewhere that ins't void at all.
I usually get to the "void" automaticaly, as soon as I get out of my body... And if I want to get there on purpose, I just dive into the ground (head first, or letting yourself fall back). You can also spin on yourself.
The thing is, I almost never know where I will end-up. I tried to visualize some places to go to while there; but it never really worked.
I don't know if I already talked about it, but I had a funny experience. Once, I was annoyed by some "woman" on an unknown place/planet... I wrestled a bit with her and suddenly she decided to give up and leave. But, as I was still holding her, she was pulling me with her. We were going very very fast through the "void" for some time... At one point, we went through some kind of "barrier", and I heard a long, loud and deep "Boooonnnnggggggggg". At this point, I became a little worried to cross some "point of no return", so I let her go and just woke up.
Robert Bruce talks about this sensation in his book. When travelling out of body, this is this feeling in the heart chakra like a purring engine...proportional to the speed you move. Interesting.

Could be the vibration but, it is very localized (seems not to propagate to the rest of the body) and I feel it in the head region. It is also usually quite slow; like 3 beats per second on average... And the fastest would be like 10 beats. It's not ripples; more like sharp beats.
I was wondering if others had the same experience...
Whenever I am travelling through the "void" (3d blackness), I can hear/feel some kind of engine-like noise apparently coming from my head... It also seems like the rythme of this "engine" is proportional to the travelling speed. The faster I go, the higher the rythme. It also feels like my whole being is pulled by this "engine".
Anything familiar?
