I dreamt I had an OBE-- is that close?

You are close!  OBE and lucid dreams are very similar, the main differences being 1) how you got there and 2) your level of conscious awareness.   Working with lucid dreams will improve your ability to have an OBE from a waking state.  Go for it!

I would believe its close. Has something to do with your subconcious being almost there. [?]

Although I can't fly in my LD's (just jump, like hulk). I still have very Lucid Dreams. Something wierd happens though and I'm wondering if it's a common thing. I'll be in a dream and become lucid, then I'll think wait, I can try to project or "I must leave" or something. Then I lie down and leave my body. What happens is that the whole dream sequence gets reloaded and when I leave my body I'm still dreaming. It's like having one of those dreams where you wake up and actually think your awake. Does that happen to anyone?

Your post intrigued me, as I had a similar experience myself a couple of days ago....

I dreamt I had been out with friends, and after walking home I laid down on my bed for a rest. Next thing I felt myself floating and I could see myself on the bed. Strange thing though, I saw myself as I had been in the dream i.e. laid on the bed fully clothed, not *in* bed like I actually was. I floated across the room and through the wall into the garden, and I dont remember a great deal after that. At the time I thought I was projecting and could move myself about just by thinking about it, but seeing myself on the bed like that made me doubt it when I woke up. Also, in this dream I felt really light, and the colours were really soft, a bit like pastel colours. Ive had a couple of conscious OBE's before, but I always felt quite "heavy", if you know what I mean.

If anybody has any thoughts on this, id be glad to hear from them.

I occasionally have lucid dreams.  I'm not the best, but if I've been thinking about it for a few days and do some reality checks I can get some.  I use close to 100 % of my lucid dreams to fly.  The euphoric sensation causes me always to wake up mid-flight.

Ever since I've learned about OBEs, I get a strange fear when I have a lucid dream, because it seems like it might be close to an OBE, and quite frankly I find the thought of facing demons and monsters (and whatever else I've heard all of you reporting) frightening (not that my own imagination does not produce these in my own dreams).

In any case, last night I actually had a dream where I had an OBE without really thinking about it.  The setting was a junior high school from years ago.  I mixed up old teachers and schoolmates from different eras (typical dream stuff going on).  A graduation assembly was made in the gym, and I was needed somewhere.  Suddenly, I became aware I was dreaming.  Furthermore, I was aware that I was watching my own body walk out the door!  I thought it was neat that I had separated consciousness from my body.  The next thing that happened has never happened in any previous dream.  I willed my point of reference to move up in the air a bit(it did) and follow my body.  Then it was as if someone gave me a gentle nudge in the direction my body had gone.  I remember thinking "I am consciousness.  I am pure thought."  Then my point of reference went floating after my body.  However, the weird part was that my only movement was caused by the initial "nudge."  I slowed down to a stop.  At that point, I could not move my point of reference in any direction.  In some dreams it can be tough to move, but never had I not been able to move at all!  I subsequently woke up.
