What is the difference between astral projection and lucid dreaming?
Depends on who you ask, a sceptic might say there are none.
Others say dreaming is already astral projection.
But I know what you're asking. The difference lies in their objectivity. A dream is a creation of your mind, and as such, your surroundings, the characters and everything else in it are subjective, 'not real' if you will. Being lucid in a dream means that you are aware of the fact you are dreaming. This however, does not take away that it is a subjective experience.
Astral projection is a more objective (real) experience. You know that you are not dreaming, and you keep your focus strong to make sure your brain does not start making things up, since that would send you back to a (lucid) dream. In other words, the world around you is not created by you. It is already there and you are just visiting it.
Hope that helps.

I allways thought the difference between astral projection and lucid dreaming is astral projection happens OUTSIDE your body while lucid dreaming happens INSIDE your body.
Some say a dream takes places in certain designated places in the astral, where your mind creates/molds your environment out of astral substance(s). I don't have enough experience in these matters to say which one I think is more likely though.
It's really hard to say. I've had both that have seemed close to each other. However some of the astral projections have seemed a lot more real. Meaning, I've projected and I pop right into my house and everything is more static. Where as a lucid dream it generally seems to be in a whole other plane of existence.
