OBEs mistaken for WILDs?

Dear folks,

Wake initiated lucid dreams and - "phasing" type OBEs sound very similiar to me especially when you read first hand reports http://www.dreamviews.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=79 . I haven' experienced any WILDs yet but considering the general population is unaware of the reality of astral projection or the difference between the dream world and the Astral world, could it be that what everyone considers W.I.L.D.'s are in truth astral projections?
I don't understand how one could control decide to phase into the dream state since consciousness is usually catapulted out of the body when the body falls asleep and the consciousness is still awake.

They might be OBE's but probably not Astral projections. Meaning that they are passively exploring the spiritual realms but not actively projecting their consciousness into one specific density level or spiritual plane.
