The moments of non-awareness and no time yopu mentiond are probably projections beyond the level of existence we are capable of recalling and understanding.

As to how we are able to have an astral presence in the first place I believe the quesiton is the opposite: How is it that we are able to have a physical presence?
I believe, based on some experiences and a lot of intuition, that we exist in the physical as reflections of the true self, what one might call the soul or the spirit for the purpose of exploring individuality in a restricted environment.
That's why, when an event takes the consciousness far enough from the physical, the physical cannot reflect the experiences of the consciousness anymore.
Think of a candle reflected by a mirror. The mirror is the physical plane and the reflection is our physical existence. When you take the candle far enough from the mirror it can no longer reflect an image. The further the candle is from the mirror the better awareness and perception one need to be able to see the reflection in the mirror.

I know, that doesn't answer all questions yopu had but someone will come along shortly to fill in what I left out [8D]

Hello all.  By the way, I want to thank the moderator who directed me to searching the forum for previous posts.  Been reading and reading.  In fact, one topic I looked up, since I've always questioned it, is the notion of consciousness and death.  The post sparked a hot topic which I read every post but never really found my answer.  So the question is.  If we are all beings of spirit and of astral travel then what is the period of "nothingness" that so many people have experienced either before they were born, have passed out, or literally died but was brought back to life?  I've heard many tales of people seeing the white light and tunnels when presumed dead but the vast majority I've heard say there was a period of absolutely no consciousness of time or awareness.  Same question applies to passing out.  What causes that period of nothingness without entering an astral dimension before regaining consciousness?  I've also heard that our astral body is a part of us that lives on and on.  But how did this astral part of us come to be in the first place that allowed the transfer of our conscious awareness to happen? One self theory  that crossed my mind is "maybe we do exist in spirit but don't remember these astral projections".  If this thought holds some truth then to me I would feel abit frightened that if this memory loss could happen during certain times of our physical being, then could they happen again in the astral?  I don't know about some but simply losing consciousness of any sort is simply disturbing.  Maybe some of you have confronted this same question and found an answer that made you feel more at ease after physical death.  I've already jumped from about a 20% believer of life after death to a 80% after my OBE's but that last 20% is in these questions.  Thanks ahead of time.
