I feel like this is a common question but it is not answered sufficiently. Now, I know that everyone is different but there should be a technique of projecting that has a higher success rate, the problem is, which is it?

None of the methods of projecting I am aware of are very reliable in a vacuum. The problem is that the limiting factor isn't the method, it is the user.
If I had to pick an approach that is most likely to yield results I would go with the candle staring method. It is somewhat manual and even if you aren't fully able to project you will experience alterations in your state of consciousness within minutes. Make sure that you look at the candle for long enough, in the past I have felt like my body is telling me it is time to stop as my eyes get tired and I wasn't quite deep enough.
In general the biggest challenge you are likely to face is with subduing the movement of your eyes. I find that it is mandatory for the eyes to remain stationary to approach the body asleep state.
What ThaomasOfGrey said about staring at a candle sounds really good. I like that idea. I do not think there is a technique that has a higher success rate than other techniques. Any technique will work when your mind and body is ready to ap. I think the ap books teach people that you have to have the right technique to be able to ap. I have used many different techniques and they all work.

There isn't "what's best". There's only "what's best FOR YOU".
The percentage chance of a technique working for the population is a meaningless concept.
The best technique is the realisation that there is no technique. My flaw for years was trying different techniques and thinking that they would have a result.My success rate improved when I realised there was technique, only understanding.
I just lie down, give myself 5 minutes with my eyes closed and breath normally, in order to process the day and quite my thoughts and relax.
I then count from 1-10 and then back to 2 and then from two - 10 and so on - in order to give myself a fixed focus and to prevent my thoughts drifting.
I then just watch the blackness and try to be aware of changes in my state and body. After awhile sleep paralysis kicks in and then projection. If i don't project immediately, i will be woken in a dream and project from there.
It's not a technique, it's an understanding.

Maybe a dumb question.....I'm sure a real candle would undoubtedly be better, but could one see results with a video like this?

I haven't done it with a video myself but I am fairly confident that other people on this forum have. There may be some limiting factors, depth perception and relative brightness.
One of the ideas is to leave an imprint of the candle light in your vision so you have something tangible to focus on after you close your eyes. Artificial light is less likely to make an impact.
There is also a change in perception that occurs where the candle light becomes magnified in your field of vision. This effect might be negated somewhat when looking at a flat panel of consistent distance.
This is not really a technique that you would expect to hear. The easy way to ap is to know that you will ap and expect it will happen. Ap happens. I have to make sure that I am not too hot or cold or otherwise I am thinking that I am too hot or cold and I am not able to relax.
The "Candle Burning" tech is very good. I had my first brief projection while using it. About 15 minutes after blowing out the candle I felt the most extreme vibrations and heard a very loud sound that was similar to a Helicopter, but this Helicopter sounded like it was landing on my roof. It scared the "beejeebus" out of me, but I couldn't wait to do it again. I was hooked!
Truthfully though all you need is a strong focus outside of your physical body. There are tons of techniques. But as said above, pick one that fits you. Use your imagination. Be creative. We all know what makes us "tick", what we are comfortable with!
That sounds great Lumaza. Thanks for sharing it with us. I would like to try the candle technique. I think I will try it tonight. Did the candle technique work on a regular basis, work few times, sometimes or was it just a one off. I think we all agree to pick a technique that you like the sound of and do it.
Came across a interesting video. This guy uses a little different terminology and draws some different conclusions than most, but around the 42 minute mark he gives a method for OBE/AP. Probably missed it but I I hadn't heard it that way before. Says the best time is waking up after REM sleep. No mention of sleep paralysis, vibrations, etc.
