robert bruce goes into some detail about body positions for OBE'ing in 'Treatise on OBE' and 'Astral Dynamics.' 'Treatise on OBE' you can download here, on the downloads page. he recommends a rocking chair with a pillow supporting your head, loose clothing, blanket to keep warm, and if a rocking chair isnt possible, its best to OBE on your back and most people have their tongues just rest on the roof of their mouth during an OBE, allowing breathing and such, but i dont recall much about the blocked airway problem. i remember reading an article that involved it on the article page... but... i dont remember which article or anything specific. just surf around the site and read up.
Hi no leaf clover... thanks for the reply. I've read astral dynamics several times (it's been one of the most valuable additions to my book collection) but the suggestions contained within weren't quite enough to alleviate the problem. I don't have a suitable chair to sit upright, sitting upright in bed creates an uncomfortable situation for my spine, and lying on my back either allows my jaw and tongue to relax and slide back (cutting off my airway) or i'm held awake due to the tension required to hold my jaw/tongue in an acceptable position. Lying on my side seems to alleviate all of these problems... and i HAVE gotten to a vibrational/trance state several times, but i'd just like to know if someone has successfully projected from that position.
thanks again,
nathan
Hi nstkd8,
I mentioned in another post somewhere that what I use is a recliner chair. The advantage is that you can always adjust the position to what suits you while both supporting your head and resting on your back.
To address your question regarding the side. I have gotten some energy movement while on my side but not much else. I sleep on my side so that position makes me want to fall asleep.
Take care,
Hi nstkd8,
I`ve had success projecting while lying on my right side but not my left. However I`ve noticed several differences from my preferred position of lying on my back. The side projections seem to result in a state where it is more difficult to see and move. Also,a side projection often puts me in the RTZ whereas leaving from my back will take me directly to the astral.I have absolutely no idea WHY this happens but I`m still pretty much of a rookie! I believe everyone has to experiment and find out what works for them. The trick for me was getting my MIND in the correct position. Hope this helps....
Happy Trails
Thanks for the replies everyone... and coral... i think that getting my mind in the right "position" IS the major problem. Lots of luck to you all.

hey nathan...yah as far as I know (and in my experience) laying on the side makes you wanna sleep. hough I do believe it would be possible if worked at, on the back, or sitting up works well from what I hear (as I dont' know for sure cause I have not had success yet :)
cheers!
Hello.
I have also projected while I was on my right side. It was easier to get out because the vibrations "pushed" me out. I also ended in the real time zone.
Hey nstkd8... Hey All! [:D]
On Sunday I separated from my right side, and on Monday I separated from my left. Now I take it that any position that is comfortable for you is fair game... and even those that are not. If you can go to sleep in that position, you can project from that position.
Cheers,

Hi Nathan,
It can be done, but it is more difficult. In fact, I suggested it to someone that was trying to stay in her body. However, if you are in the habit of sleeping on your side, it will probably work.
In fact, I did it today. =]

Thanks for the advice everyone... since a couple of you have projected while lying on your side... it can OBVIOUSLY happen. [:D]

Hi Folks,
To add my two cents, I have projected from the reclined,
back, and side,.. However, it should be mentioned that the
side projections often involved rolling out of my body, almost
flopping out and spinning into the RTZ. But hey, a projection
is a projection, I'm not exactly one to be picky at this point.
[:)]On a side note, In one of his books carlos castaneda suggests
sitting in the butterfly stretch position (akin to indian style,
with soles of feet touching) and using a 1 foot long pole with a
headrest on it held between the feet with your head leaned forward
and resting on it as the ideal dreaming position.
Good Luck,
Wonderboy
Has anyone had success with OBE while lying on his/her side? This is the position that i'm working from. When i lay on my back... it's comfortable and the trance state seems to come more easily, but my tongue/jaw keeps sliding back and blocking the airway as i relax. Siting upright has also been little use to me since i have no means of supporting my head (and getting it to balance as i drift off seems nearly impossible). I just want to be sure that i'm not wasting my time on this bodily position.
Thanks,
nathan
