Born with it?

Someone born with the ability to WILLFULLY project could be said to have been born with a gift.  Those unfortunates who project willy-nilly, with no control, might consider it more a curse than a gift.

But yes, I believe some people are born with natural abilities, but they are general abilities, not peculiar to OBE.  These abilities are:

1. the ability to suspend disbelief and think magically
2. the ability to deeply relax
3. the ability to clear one's mind of cluttered thoughts
4. the ability to dis-associate ones mind from ones body
5. a strong Will
6. the ability to stay aware in liminal (inbetween) states of consciousness

Some people are born with these things.  Others need to work on them. Anyone may achieve them!

I agree with what Tisha said.  While anyone (yes, even you) can LEARN to have OBE's, some people have an easier time doing it.  

If a person is not really good at relaxation, or controlling their thoughts, this isn't to say that they can't have an OBE.  It'll just take them more of an effort to learn these things.

Just like a person like me would need a lot more effort to prove I can play in the NBA (I'm 5'10"), someone like Michael Jordon has a natural ability for the sport.

Believe me, if *I* can have an OBE, then anyone can!  It just takes patience, and a non-biased introspective look at yourself.  You need to know where you need work, and what changes to make to your mentality.

And lots and lots of practice!  I went from having no OBE's in my life to sometimes 2-3 a week.  While this may seem like an awesome "gift", I always remind myself of two important things:

1) It's not something given to me, but something I had to learn.

2) I still can't have these whenever I want.  I can only prepare myself for them, make the conditions as right as I can, and then hopefully I will have one.

A lot of it is trial and error.  You learn what works for you and what doesn't.

I think some people are more predispositioned to Astral Projecting than others. I have always wondered if I was born with an innate ability because I have lucid dreams all the time without any effort, and I have experienced vibrations as a teenager and which was extremely frightening for me at the time.

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night completely paralyzed and feeling what seems like a surge of electricity surging through your body. I was frightened to death because I thought I was being electricuted somehow. I woke up the next day horrified. It wasn't until last year that I started reading Astral Dynamics that what I might have experienced were actually called 'Vibrations'.

I don't even know if Astral Projection is real or not. I am sort of a skeptic on that. I think like a scientist, and having a logical mind makes me question everything thoroughly. But I do know that lucid dreaming is real because I've done it so many times I've lost count. A friend of mine who is a mystic said that I have a natural ability to do what he calls 'Dream Walking'. But whatever it may be, I've been reading Astral Dynamics and everything Bruce says is really starting to coincide with some of the experiences that I've had.

Or maybe you could say that we are all borned with it; but as we grow up, and are taught by adults that it's our imagination, we tend to loose it...
