Hi all this is my first post.

I'm familiar with OBE's.  I have had several experiences where I am in the process of leaving my physical body, but what I haven't seen anybody mention is the VERY VERY WEIRD INTENSE SENSATION of the separation that throws me off.  There's only been one brief time where I left my body coming out of a dream, saw myself laying in bed, and I wanted back in my body asap because my heart felt like it was being pulled apart.

To the OBE'ers:  do you know what I am talking about?  when your whole self feels VERY WEIRD and feel like a heart attack is happening, how do you keep moving along without the sensations distract me back to where I was???

Welcome to the Pulse  8-)

think of your heart chakra like the engine of the soul its normal for it to whizz as fast as a humming bird, and can feel quite intense
my advice is to just enjoy it it will likely become less pronounced as you progress
i don't feel any sensations anymore i just phase from one to the other

Hi and welcome.
It typical and normal so dont worry. Ignore it as it soon passed.
Noy said the rest...
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

Thank you NoY and Szaxx, I feel more enthusiastic to peak this phenomena

One way is to push on through.

I have found these overwhelming sensations to be inhibiting.

Say you use the rope method... this would be good because it gives you a metaphor that helps with the process of actively pulling yourself free of your 'physical bonds' and although this method gives rise to a lot of tactile sensations - auditory sensations being akin to a vacuum cleaner in your head - it gives you the advantage of having something physical feeling to focus on; using strength to pull yourself up.

It's like you are given a reason for the sensations rather then them just happening while you are gently gliding away form your body.

Bedeekin, I looked at the 66 AP techniques stickied in Astral Consciousness, read the rope technique.  Which rope method do you like best?

Bedeekin

As soon as I am in state... I very hastily reach up and pull myself out. I don't really visualise a rope. It's more the action I do rather than having details of type of rope etc. It's very direct and aggressive. Also very noisy and is akin to what a mosquito must feel when pulling itself from the larval stage... with the water tension like sticky thick mud.

I haven't actually read about any other types of rope method. This one seemed natural to do one night.

I use it only when all else fails these days.

it is definitely normal, and it can be kind of scary. i kind of look forward to the vibrations though; it means i can project! i am just getting to the point where they are less pronounced. but i still feel an electrical type current. i have also had a very increased heart rate, trouble breathing, all that. just try to stay relaxed when it happens. even focus on it. for me it is a sign that i am able to separate. i can just stand up now, or roll out effortlessly, but before, i would feel the vibrations and separate my appendages first, get as "out" as possible without being completely so, and then roll out. that was the easiest method for me starting out. good luck!

Ya...

the majority of sensations felt during Sleep Paralysis can be attributed to the awareness of slipping into REM atonia... something you do every time you dream. Else you would move whilst dreaming.

The electric current is just that... the muted strobing effect of muscle atonia. All muscles that are connected to bone (striated muscles) are basically decommissioned by the depolarisation of neurones. But you can still feel the one way traffic; messages sent to your brain. This feels like mild buzzing... to a tremendous prolonged vibrational electric shock. Fear during SP is enhances these vibrations because of adrenalin. This is coursing through your system trying to instigate the fight or flight response.

Because your striated muscles are paralysed you can't voluntarily move them. We breath automatically when we are asleep. Because your brain is switched to 'sleep' mode this automated breathing mechanism has kicked in. Any awareness of your breathing therefor feels uncomfortable because you want to breath voluntarily... you can't... so this makes breathing tight and gives a sinking pressure-like sensation around the ribcage. The breathing mechanism during sleep (and meditation) is provided by the diaphragm muscle... as opposed to the paralysed Intercostal muscles.

So your system of staying relaxed is the right one.

It even helps to enter SP by copying how you breath when asleep. Record yourself... so you can replicate the rhythm while inducing using only your diaphragm. From your tummy.
