Title: Breathing problem
Post by: 2years on June 29, 2015, 23:40:58
so when i'm trying to get into an astral state when lying down, I end up putting my gaze upon my breathing, when that happens I cant get my mind off of it and I then feel my mucus down my throat. Any suggestions as how to fix this problem? :?

Change your focus to another target. I have the same problem. I could never AP/Meditate by concentrating on my breathing. It always caused me to either hyperventilate or focus too much on my mucus in my throat.

I normally put my focus on either a imagined visual target or just on points outside of my body. You could also just lose yourself in the darkness before your closed eyes or focus on a Mantra or counting numbers. Their are many other things to focus on besides breathing.

Also, try sitting in a chair when you attempt to AP. Then you will find that breathing and mucus in the throat aren't really an issue anymore. You can also try a glass of warm water before you AP as well.

Lumaza is 100% correct.

You just have to find the focus which works best for you.

There are THOUSANDS of "techniques" out there for you to try... except, they're really not all that different from one another.
They each do the exact same thing, they just do it using a different focus.  So, that's what you need to find out... which of those focuses works best for you.

Once you figure out what Focus works best for you, you can then create your own technique uniquely suited for YOU.  :)

Give that a read.  I explain the concept a bit more there.  :)

I find it difficult to forget my breathing too. This is something I have had trouble with my entire life, once I have taken control of my breathing manually it becomes hard to return to automatic breathing. For astral projection attempts I use a couple of breathing techniques which help a lot.

Do a google search on the 4-7-8 breathing technique. I came across this article by chance claiming the breathing technique can put you to sleep in 60 seconds. It isn't that good, but it is quite good and I figured that if it can put you to sleep it is potentially useful for accelerating the relaxation and dissociation process.

Try to breath from your diaphragm instead of heaving your chest. I have read that if you identically match the breathing pattern used while sleeping that it will put you to sleep. I use the 4-7-8 for a couple of minutes to warm up, then relax into a more natural breathing pattern similar to sleep.

There are couple of little properties of the sleep breathing pattern. It should feel very cyclical, like a consistent flow of air in and out with little pause in between. It helps to focus on the airways at your nose and mouth. Feel the air moving through your nostrils and you may find that the rest of the breathing response is automatic. If you get the pattern right your sense of breath will become completely numb in not too long.
