Cacophony inside of my head!

A few years ago I awoke inside of my bed, and realized I couldn't move... Before reading about sleep paralysis, I had NO idea what was happening to me, and it freaked me out... The part that I'm trying to understand is that while paralyzed, I heard this horrible screeching sound inside of my head, it was a discordant/cacophony type sound, like a train or airline jet taking off directly inside of my head... like somebody stuck a guitar amplifier up to my eardrum and struck a thousand chords at one time. Does anybody know what this could possibly be?

Sounds like the "Vibrations" you get when you're ready to go out of body.  I had the same thing happen to me a few times - terrifying loud sounds, as well as the sensation of being close to a giant motor.  Each time thought about floating away from my body and I did.

Scared the s**t out of me the first few times but it's definitely a positive sign with regards to OBEs.

Thanks RennaisanceMan,

At least I know I'm not alone now!

However, I don't see how one can maintain a meditative state while a boeing 747 is taking off inside of your head!  (LOL)

P.S. It's good to hear that that is a precursor to OBE's. (I just wish it wasn't so LOUD and ENORMOUSLY LOUD!!!)

Those squealing/screeching sounds seem to be very common, I get what sounds like that awful feedback noise when you place a microphone too close to a speaker. Some people get banging and crashing and even shouting, though it's never clear who's doing the shouting. Most experts say it is a kind of auditory hallucination and it usually preceded the vibrations associated with immenent OBE. So it's a good thing :)

In my experience, the "hum" is not an hallucination, but it is the sound of the active chakras of the astral body. This might happen whenever someone has been using a mantra in which stimulates the chakras of the astral body, though occasionally the chakras seem to be mildly active in some people without a known cause.

I previously posted a mantra called FARAON, which has the affect of stimulating a certain chakra of the astral body and 'stilling' the mind so that sleep--astral projection--can be approached consciously. The mantric method of astral projection, itself, is fairly simply; the discipline that is required is the continuous chanting of a single phrase.

The muscles relax naturally in the process of sleep. So, there is no need to intentionally attempt to relax them. I know people who have been relaxing their muscles for years and still can not astral project (fall asleep consciously) every night.

FA-RA-ON

Mantra - A phrase (ordinarily spoken prolonged) to produce specific effects. Mantras for astral projection are spoken mentally.

Pronunciation:

FA (as in far)

RA (as in far); the R is trilled

ON (as in stone)

1. Sit or lay down in a comfortable position to prepare for sleep.

2. Inhale. Upon exhaling mentally chant the phrase FA, prolonging it: FAAAAAAA

3. Again inhale. Upon exhaling chant the phrase RRRAAAAA

4. Once more inhale. Upon exhaling chant the phrase OOOOOONNNN

5. Say the mantra on and on continuously, for what feels like about an hour or two. The application of the mantra improves with practice. It also has the effect of stimulation lucid experiences in the night.

FAAAAAAA...
RRRRAAAAAA...
OOOOOONNNN...

FAAAAAAA...
RRRRAAAAAA...
OOOOOONNNN...

FAAAAAAA...
RRRRAAAAAA...
OOOOOONNNN...

Note: Astral projection can be learned quickly with the application of mantras, though they have to be said generally for a good interval of time. In truth, the only true way to learn  to astral projection is by astral projecting every day.

(pm me for a sound file of the mantra)

...I believe I've heard this noise your talking about. It occured about 3 months ago during vibrations. Not a very soothing sound.
Leaning over
Crawling up
Stumbling all around
Losing my place
Only to find I've come full circle.

Kraven Obscuria

Job,
I have and do use the FARAON mantra, sometimes while visualizing a pyramid, as in Astral Pulse Island.  The mantra has proved to be effective for me. It does seem to produce rougher vibrations into an OBE, than just using visualization and  going straight into the Astral.

You can induce this state for yourself if you lock your attention on the field of inner noises.

If they appear instable and fluctuate a lot you have a good chance to proceed on and successfully pretend that what you are actually hearing is wind in your ears.

This requires a qualitative jump in perception similar to when you start to see a blob of inner light as the full moon. You really need to wander your attention around the noises to get a good grasp on this transition.

Then try to modulate the wind until becomes very loud and keeps starting to turn into a pressure in your ears. If you keep pushing this will quickly develop into the cacophonous state.

Basically it's the same as the vibrational state but now your focus is not as bodily oriented.

I believe you are hearing your brain's own arousal system through the auditory cortex and well on your way to develop a little seizure in your temporal lobe.

As you turn the noise into wind you shift brain activity related to conscious attention from the primer auditory cortex to the secondary and associative cortical regions.

This trigger an orchestrated shift in other parts of the sensory cortex too, pretty similar in nature. So entopic lights turn into hypnagog pictures and the inner representation of the body comes out of alignment.

All these focuses and shifts have their own correspondence or projection on the body's image. For instance, after getting a good grasp on the noises by focusing on the middle of your chest, you can promote the transition by changing your primary focus to the root of your neck.

Then comes the cacophony, crying spirits, enlightened choirs and instrumental music from heaven - they are all interpretation of the primer noise source. This input, however, keeps brain centers awake and ready to interpret real non-physical information. Clairaudience seems to come embedded in environmental and somatic noises.

Hey Upstream,

After hearing the cacophony/heavenly music/voices, is that the point at which your astral/physical body separate?

upstream

Yes it is. Just try to roll over very slowly without propelling yourself too much with your extremities. You can also start with a slow, almost imaginary turn as a means to sort of make the way for a second, real spin, now in the opposite direction. I call this snap back rolling and it works great.

If you have difficulties in distinguishing your sleeping body from the double concentrate very intently to a point above your head for a couple of seconds, then try to roll again. This will lose up the dream body.

You can also try to move just one of your hand at a time, first very slowly in little circles around the place where it feels to rest on, slowly increasing circles until you waving your arm in the air like a flag. By this point your entire dream body should have been out of alignment and you can stand up with ease.

In my experience the cacophonous sounds are actual noises from the astral plane (the activation of chakras). The other noises: music, voices, etc. are hallucinatory fabrications of the subconscious (which has its residence in the astral plane)--because there is an actual embodiment of subconscious (the cause of all dreams, daydreams and extraneous thoughts).

Also, the subconscious does not only have mental influence, but it has physical influence as well, whereas it is commonly only associated with the mind.

The above mentioned statements are based upon my personal observations and experiences. For someone else to discover this I'll give an obscure method, because there is not yet a precise procedure to discover the subconscious (only to discover the manifestation of subconscious elements within the physical body (thoughts and bodily reactions)).

For years I studied subconscious invasion and manifestation within my own body, knowing that certain microscopic actions and thoughts that were provoked were involuntary (they were not caused by me). The actual realization of the subconscious came from the increasing of consciousness (essences of the spirit) and retaining consciousness through the process of sleep.

The key is to observe the anatomical reactions that occur within the physical body: to 'feel' the barely (subtle) scopic reactions of fizzing muscles, to learn to 'feel' the subtle mental tension that is caused by the impression of a single thought, to pay attention to the movement of bodily fluids and the subtle sensations that are caused in the digestive track, etc..
(the sense of 'inner touch' is used to study involuntary reactions within the body)

It's what everyone says here, the beginning of the vibrational state.  The sound is very very loud when you hear it for the first time, but after several OBEs the sound will not be so noticeable.  It's probably just as loud, but just doesn't sound as loud after awhile.  Some folks stop hearing it all together and some don't hear it at all ever.

In any case, don't be afraid of it and in fact you should just pay attention to it and try and "weave" it into being as loud as you can get it.  You will then suddenly either find yourself just floating up or floating sideways and out, or rolling out, or you might need to just give yourself a gentle "nudge" to roll out to get things started, then they will happen on their own after that.  Don't push too hard.

Congrats for getting this far, you are very very close.

I heard this same noise for the first time last night while trying focus on projecting. Not being sure what I was hearing, I shifted my focus to my physical body and the noise went away. I lost my chance to OBE, but I learned something in the process.

Next time I hear it I'll just let it continue.
