Mindfulness

Hello.

So I read a book on astral projection by William Bulhman and found it very interesting and informative.  I tried a few of his different techniques for the last month but haven't had much success.  I got to the vibrational stage once then fell asleep.  I also found myself in a lucid dream, came to realize it, and started taking control of it only to wake up.

So outside of taking months or years to experiment and try out every possible type of method available, is there anything that tends to work better for starters than others?  The only technique that almost worked is the one where you memorize an object(s) for twenty minutes per day, usually before bed, then focus on them while nodding off to sleep.  This had me wake up in the vibrational state once but I couldn't get out of my body.

I've also read stuff on the phasing technique and that sounds interesting as well.  I also practice with meditation and am curious if this would somehow be helpful in ways I haven't experimented with yet?  Should I just stick with my technique that almost worked and keep at it for as long as it takes?  Any advice for me?  Thanks.

Hello! I too read Buhlman's books and gained a lot from them.  Here is how it worked for me - I tried a lot of the techniques and started to get frustrated...so I stopped trying and just held an intention that it would happen.  Low and behold, I find myself floating out of my body one night!  I was rather caught up in the whole process of "doing" something.  Anyway, since that I have managed a few other experiences (I am new to the world of OBEs but learning fast.)

I find that the BEST time for me to have a projection is either at night when I have already woken from a sleep cycle, or after a nap.  The time when you are not exhausted tired and don't just pass out into deep sleep instantly.

Here is my most recent tale -

For example, the other day I was recovering from a flu, and decided to take a nap around 4 in the afternoon.  I woke again around 6, and was still sleepy and decided to close my eyes.  after a few minutes I felt my mind still being awake, but my body was tingling with energy.  that's where the fun started...i felt myself sink into the bed, then rise back up and float "halfway" out...I went back and forth a few times and then said "clarity now" like Buhlman suggests, and was impressed to be "seeing" without my eyes. I was halfway out of my body and touched my physical arm with my astral arm and was impressed to see it go through! I never really got out of my room that day and eventually just woke up, but it really affirmed that "space" you get in which is perfect for OBE/AP.

Try taking a nap, and then once you wake up and are still sleepy, affirm that your mind will stay awake and let your body drift back off again.  That's where the majic happens!

Also, dream conversion seems really cool too...I am working on some techniques to do more lucid dreaming.  Once you become lucid in a dream, just say "awareness now" and wait and see where you go :) Happy travels!

so...i've got some bad news....

you're dealing with altered states of awareness and there aren't any clearly defined levels.  consciousness is more like a gradient, a continuum of slightly different altered states.  there isn't one specific state that is necessarily better than others, though states on the "low" (low brainwave frequency) are better associated with astral projection.  states on the "high" (high brainwave frequency) end would be likened to waking consciousness or even a high alpha ecstatic state.  but, because of the infinite variability between different altered states, the only sure fire way to figure out which techniques work for you is to try them.

i feel like your best bet is to thoroughly immerse yourself in the theory of projection so that you can fully understand what it is you're trying to do and then make a plan for the method that is most in line with your particular "style" of awareness.
be awesome.

Personalreality, may I ask why that is "bad news?"

I do agree that everyone is different and each person needs to test themselves.  I definitely can relate to how Mindfulness is feeling just starting out...it seems like there are so many methods, how do you know?  Ask your Higher Self and see what happens I guess  :-)

Mindfulness,

I think PR has some good advice.  Also I did a couple of Buhlman's workshops and he kept saying find the technique that you feel most comfortable with and stick with it for a month.  I first had success with the target method after several weeks of practice.  I think most of us have to have the discipline of practice, pratice, practice.

...it's bad news because Mindfulness didn't want to have to invest so much time.  naturally, bad is relative.  for me, the time wasn't so bad once I realized the benefit I was getting from the practice (especially in my daily life).

Gotcha...Yes, the practice itself of trying to achieve something always contains the lesson too!

You will get there.  Reading Buhlman's books are what inspired me and now it's happening on the regular.
