Title: Clicking Sounds In My Head
Post by: Taz on August 11, 2012, 01:36:10
the other day during an obe practice sesh, i experienced 2 very loud clicking sounds in my head, one right after the other. this was new for me, and was just wondering if any of you have experienced this for yourselves, or if you know whether this is any kind of a tell tale signal for the start of an obe? if this has been covered somewhere on another thread, my apologies, but have not run across one yet. :?

in any case, any insight to this experience would be very much appreciated! :-D

I have never heard clicking sounds but I have heard other things.  That was a sign for you to astral project.  When you hear things you are on the verge to be able to astral project.  You do not have to hear anything to be able to astral project.

Yes it sounds like another one of the famous Astral "sign posts" that we all hear about. Just like with the others, passively observe it, then move on towards your ultimate goal.
Don't forget to write about it in your journals afterwards.
Good Luck and Safe Travels!  :-)

I've had this a few times while practicing.

I was quite startled by it and remember thinking "that doesn't sound organic"... it sounded like a plastic cap gun dry firing. Pretty specific but there you go. or one of those useless kid toy cone thingys that clicks a ping pong ball up in the air.

Well, certainly, the early authors such as Oliver Fox (and Sylvan Muldoon?) mentioned a click on exit. Oliver fox described hearing a click when passing through the "pineal doorway". The click occurs when consciousness transfers from the physical to the astral. I have personally heard it but only very rarely. I have never heard of two clicks though, so what you are experiencing, may be something different. Many types of noises occur during hypnogogia, clicks would not be surprising.

Hi,
Any noise even completely new sounds can be heard on the verge of exit. Examples I've heard are shouting voices occasionally my own? Music, various zingy noises, toddlers playing, babies crying, aircraft taking off, thunder and so many more. Ignore them all they are the last thing unnatural before exit regarding sounds.

Congratulations Taz. It is a great accomplishment.

I hear the clicking or snapping sound in my head fairly often. It can happen when leaving the body or also upon returning to the body.

I believe it has to do with the sound of the cord that breaks away or reconnects from the juncture between the pituitary gland and the pineal gland.

It breaks away when separating from your body and reconnects when returning to your body.

I believe when you hear this snapping or clicking sound it means you have successfully had an OBE separation through the top of your head. You may lose consciousness quickly after this and not realize you had an OBE.

Any extraneous sounds one hears from non-physical experiences such as trying to project or through meditation, can usually be accounted for as hypnogogic sounds.

As you experience more and more, you'll end up hearing quite the range of things... everything from pops and clicks, to gunshots and explosions...

I've been lying in bed before simply falling asleep and heard the LOUDEST explosions, where they've actually startled me... yet, my fiance sleeping next to me is completely unaffected.  LoL  Funny stuff really when you jolt awake and realize what you heard wasn't anything physical.  :)

Seriously Todd, where do you get this information from?  :)

Is this something you've read and just believe?  Or is there some actual personal experience which you feed from that tells you this?
I guess what I'm asking is what's the basis behind this particular belief you have that it's "the sound of the cord that breaks away"?
Have you, perhaps, directly witnessed this act occurring while you've projected and then thought, "Ooooh that's what that sound is!"?

Xanth,

I document every single symptom I experience, and I categorize them. I then try to determine where the symptom originates from and what causes the symptom.

The reason for doing this is so I can easily reproduce the stages of projection at will with full awareness. This is the reason why it is beneficial to be detailed in the knowledge of the steps.

I have determined the snapping sound to be located at the point between the pituitary gland and the pineal gland. It is reproducible when you know the details of it.

I know it is a cord (consciousness thread) because I can feel the cord snap in that location and slip away. At that point I can feel my awareness rise upwards through the top of the head.

When I re-enter the body the reverse sequence happens.

Where can I get a cord?

I've never had one... are they any good?

I have only noticed the snapping sound whenever I separate through the top of my head. I have not noticed it in any other types of projections.

Below is the only diagram that I could find that fits my description of the entire energetic cord. It follows the pathway of it's physical counterpart the pneumogastric or vagus nerve.

Catmeow mentioned Oliver Fox talking a lot about this snapping sound in his projections through the top of his head also. I don't think it is a very common type of projection for most people. But I try to get this type of projection as often as I can.

That's very intriguing, Todd.

I was simply interested in your experience of it.  It never occurs to me, because, as you probably know, I don't do any of the classic separation OBE thing.

Thank you for sharing.  :)

Oh yeah these are definitely normal. I hear clicking sounds quite often. I hear a lot of screaming too. Or shouting. I was meditating once and I heard a voice say "shutup" lol.

You really never know what you are going to get. All just part of the hypnagogic state though. It's totally normal.

I get a loud snap or gunshot type sound at separation quite frequently. It also happens when I quickly fall asleep and immediately wake up. Though I've also never experienced the cord.

thanks everyone for your responses/insights - it's very much appreciated! i was pretty confident i'd receive some great feedback from many of you. and because i hadn't experienced that particular sound/sensation during the month i had been diligently practicing before my first fully conscious obe, i was very curious to find out if others had experienced anything similar.

thanks again - you guys rock! 8-)
