Just a thought, perhaps you allow yourself to go to deep into trance, light to medium trance is said to be the best state to project from... ..if you go to deep, perhaps your mind isn´t as alert as it needs to be (silent, but alert)... going to deep with trance perhaps may cause your body to fall in deep sleep and your mind to blunt (is that the correct term for loosing "the edge"?, having hard time finding the words in english sometimes?) and be the cause of the "REM" sort of eye movements.. I haven´t experienced this, but it might be like that... what do you think?

I also experience this "waking rem" sensations on occasion. All I can suggest is relax everything in your face as soon as it starts.
Hi sumisra,
I have experience with the same phenonamen, and I can tell you with relative assurance the eye movements *are* in fact Rapid Eye Movement patterns. They can occur at any time during relaxation or trance, and have occured with myself as well, even without any other distinguishable sensations, like hypnogogia or minds-eye visions. Your level of relaxation is already high enough if you experience vibrations, which would enable REM sleep to begin its cycle.
The best way to overcome this is to gently rub your finger and thumb together, or *slightly* resettle yourself. This will lighten the level of trance (careful not to break it), and immediately stop the REM.

NOTE: I have also experienced sensations like when the muscles on the sides of the eye seem to become stretched and slighyly uncomfortable and could seem to buzz like REM. That happens to me usually if I'm stimulating any energy centres around the area of the eyes, so keep an eye out for that too.
Thanks for your replys. They have helped more than I could describe! Anyhoo...
I have been using the Monroe Institutes hemi-sync tapes. I've found them to be very effective in helping me relax. I guess I don't realize how deep of a trance state I am in. The problem lies with the fact that I can't obtain the buzzing without the REM creeping up on me - very frustrating!!! I'll try to stay away from the brink as you were insinuating que-gon. That makes sense.
I'll try that method Conn and let you know the results. Hopefully I can maintain the buzzing while moving my physical. (I've never done this successfully) In time I suppose. Just one question - is projection possible without the vibrational state? (in a consistent & repeatable way)
Thanks again!
Hi sumisra,
A lot of people say that vibrations are necessary
to enable an OBE to occur. However I think this
only applies to external point-shift methods, like
the rope method or roll-out method, etc.
There is in fact a way to achieve an OBE without
vibrations, which involves visualisation of
the target area. I have done this with good
success usually but requires a deeper level of
trance than usual. It ends up the same as a normal
OBE minus the exit sensations (and vibrations
too!)

Thanks for the direction Conn.
Last night I attempted the index to thumb technique to quell the REM, and it worked! As I felt the vibrations start lightly, I tried to keep them light. As they grew I felt the energy rise into my face. I did that rubbing bit, which calmed them down. I did have trouble keeping the vibrations at a light frequency, but I still found it successful. With practice I should get better. Ok, I'm rambling, I'm sure you've heard a thousand stories such as mine, so again thanks for your advice!
Hey simusra,
Hey, it's no problem! And by the way, I would classify myself a newbie so don't worry about it :)

Hello,
I'm hoping someone could help me with a problem I've been having. I'm yet to have a controlled OBE, but have come close consciously in addition to flying dreams (which I believe to be OBE). I seem to have little difficulty in feeling the vibrations, however I can never hold them. I feel them start around my hamstrings or solar plexus, but then my eyes kind of...freak out. They start moving as if I was in REM sleep. It lasts for a few seconds until I cannot bear to keep my eyelids shut. Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone suggest what I could do?
