Hello, I just recently got interested in Astral Projection a few days ago and I am yet to do it successfully. In the meantime I have heard of these 'Dark Entities' and it would be nice to have some info on the topic before I make the jump to the astral plane. I have a few questions:
Why do they exist?
Where do they come from? Or are they just a mere manifestation of the mind?
Are they living things? Or just ideas?
I know they cannot hurt us in any way other than the surprise factor but can we in some form do battle with and/or vanquish them?
If you were to defeat one/send it away is it gone for good or can it come back?
If you were to make one manifest could someone else in the astral plane see it? Additionally, could they harm friendly entities?
Any other info or a linked read up would be nice. Thank you :-D

Well that seems to be the #1 question really...
I'd venture to say that some are a manifestation from your mind... and some are from outside yourself.
How do you tell the difference? Through experience. Sometimes it can be impossible to tell the difference.

But then, I'd ask "what is a living thing?"
We're physically alive, yes... but what's consciousness? Is consciousness "alive" in the same way that we're physically alive?
It's a whole different ballgame, if you get my drift. ;)

You're coming at this from a point of Fear ("fighting" is a position of fear).
Just venture out into the non-physical with Loving intentions and you'll be just fine.

If you venture into the non-physical with less than honorable intentions (wanting to spy on people, for example), then you're going to end up not really having a good time. You'll probably end up scaring the crap out of yourself more than likely.

To add.. a lot of the reports of 'dark' entities are manifestations of fear while in Sleep Paralysis (SP). I think Xanth and others can testify that once fully integrated into the nonphysical - rather than in the dual state of SP - ones perspective has shifted in such a way that any perceived dark or negative entity is akin to experiencing a negative person in this reality... not evil... not paranormally spooky... but rather acceptably normal.
that depends on what you mean by the "Dark Entities" do you mean the ones you see while you're in sp or "the virus" of this planet ?
So do they just appear during SP? Or while astral projected too?
It's not that 'they' appear... because 'they' are a product of your own fear... The Sleep Paralysis state can cause this fear to be amplified to an extent that they are given form. Depending on whether you are scared of wolves... aliens.. the stay puffed marshmallow man or demons will be the deciding factor as to what you will see... and this isn't guaranteed... it can just happen. It's not really important.
Part of the problem about discussing this is that you will think about it and form your own ideas, when it really is the absolute most unimportant aspect of the whole experience and is a complete waste of time to think about.
As for anything seen during exploration... it is like real life. So anything seen isn't compounded with silly fear and is rather assessed using a reasoning similar to your own waking life. I have been terrified during SP for millions of reasons. Never during an actual 'Out' bit.
I see. Then what do the entities that appear (Good/Bad) during OOB that are not created by the mind do? Do they have lives like you and me or are they just 'there'? I also assume there are many types of entities? Can you talk/reason/hang out with them? Do they leave traces in the physical world/can we sense them?
The important thing is knowing that you are safe and you are protected. If you go in with good intent, you don't need to worry about fear. Xanth really has hit the nail on the head for your questions. And the ones we can't give a concrete answer...? Well, ultimately we don't know everything out there, let alone have the capacity to really grasp and understand it. But that's part of the beauty of it. The excitement and adventure.
They are much less bound by the constraints of this reality. What they want they can generally manifest within their reality to a much greater degree.
Think about this reality and the people that live within it.. some people live their lives wrapped within certain beliefs... some are wrapped up in their own fears... some are slightly more conscious and loving... others are very wise and aware.
Now put these types in the nonphysical... where there are different constraints that allow their personalities and realities to manifest as a reality to a much greater degree than ours. The ones that are wrapped up in beliefs have created their own entire realms... the ones that are driven by fear create a fear driven reality... Those that are more aware are aware of their reality and then the wise ones are more aware of your reality and theirs... then there are higher levels of intelligence...
Now also add this varied bag of possibilities into the different types of entity that isn't constrained by our rules... we are getting into the realms of more possibilities.
Now add the multiple realities that are subsets of these realities... and their nonphysical counterparts that can interact within the nonphysical that you can also operate within...
Now add your own interpretation and beliefs as you observe and interact with these entities and their environments.
Then add the realities of all the nonphysical people who are alive in this reality to these realities... who are acting out their dreams... having aware OOBEs etc
These findings are my own and correlate to those theorised by others.

I dont deal much in faith, I like to work with what has been proved to me and/or makes sense.
This a simple version of my understanding/belief/experience.
During our life we accumulate many beliefs on a conscious and subconscious level.
Much of that is affected by our experiences, that in turn ultimately shape our beliefs and how we see and experience the world and ourselves.
The experiences that are painful or difficult can and will, if not faced and dealt with directly, leave us with feelings/thoughts and emotions that can make us feel low, fearful or anxious. They can manifest at an unconscious level. That is to say, we know we dont feel great, but we are not sure why?
At a certain level this is often known as depression.
During the daytime we can distract often ourselves from these feelings/ideas/thoughts. But in our sleep when we pass through the stage of light sleep our mind shifts to the astral level of consciousness where we dream. In our sleep we are unable to avoid those un-dealt with issues in our subconscious. So its a chance for our mind to try and process and deal with them
Because I believe the astral is a reflection of our subconscious, we we can often have bad dreams that are a subconscious manifestation of that which we haven't yet dealt with. Our minds try and sort it out for us, so we can dream about being chased/attacked etc etc, when in fact its our mind creating a version of our fears we can relate to.
I know this to be true because I reached a stage (I believe through hours and hours of meditation and self reflection) that during AP I was attacked but soon realised that the person attacking me was a direct manifestation of my un-dealt with thoughts and fears and I began to know directly and very clearly what they where and why! It was incredible waking up with such clarity! As soon as I realised what was manifesting the imaginary (but very real feeling) attacker dissolved
So I believe being attacked, how ever real it might feel, is a great thing, as we the have the opportunity to stay with it, allow it to be there, dont fight it, just ask your self, why have I created this..and like magic it will go and you will grow.
I also as a working medium haven't come across or heard of a "dark entity" although I think people like the idea of it all for some reason.
What I am sure of, is that there are people who have passed who have led a pretty violent or nasty life, but in the subtle worlds we can only move at frequencies that match the vibration of our light. So unless your a murderer I cant see how you will ever meet one in the astral or spirit world. They wont be able to reach you.
I think you are too insitghtful and aware already to have any trouble at all..and if you do, its just your own mind showing you somthing buried away. Go about your practice with joy.
