Title: Difference between dreams and reality?
Post by: Astralkm8 on October 27, 2013, 21:00:55
Hello, I don't exactly know where else I could post this so I decided to post I here. Recently, I've notice that after going to a party (drinking) I go home and sleep, where I have very vivid dreams. Sometimes they are so vivid that I have to ask people if what happened was true. The night after te party I always dream about it and wake up not knowing what actually happened there. I could think one thing happened when really I dreamt that part. Just like today I heard simon cowell's name and could have sworn he was in jail for killing his girlfriend. I was wondering why they were talking about him being on the X factor, I was thinking that he'd surely be kicked off After murderig someone. At this point I thought it was probably the same situation as it usually is, I dreamt about it. So I googled it really quick and sure enough I had made it up in my head. This only seems to happen after a night of drinking. Any ideas on what it could be?

If you're having trouble telling the difference between physical reality and dreaming, it's time to quit drinking.
But to answer your question:
Dreams: You're already in a scene, absurd things seem normal, there is not always continuity. Others seem to know what you're thinking.
Physical reality:  Things happen sequentially, you go somewhere before getting there, things happen slow, and you know the difference between what's possible and what isn't.  If you see a polka dot elephant in your living room you know it's not real.

...or at least do it in moderation.

I have been awaking in my Dreams for such a long time that I have many memories of doing things and being places, but I know I have never physically been there or did whatever it was that I saw I did. This has created some "false memories". These Dreams were so realistic, that they were implanted into my mind as really happening. Then there are the times I feel I am awakening in the middle of some kind of "download". But we will keep that topic for another thread some time in the future.

...says the crazy man, lol!  :-D

I remembered stuff from when I was a little kid. I brought it up recently like in a yeah-I-remember-When-I-did-This way. Only to have my parents and other loved ones, "Oh I remember you telling me that ages ago, it was a dream you had.

I got this sometimes like this in the past, but minus the drinking part.

We've all been there and done that.  Ok, me.
That's why when I started doing dreamwork things like reality checks and such made me nervous- I was afraid I'd lose the ability to tell the difference and end up in an institution somewhere.
Luckily it didn't happen. Unless I'm there now and don't know.  Lol.

I use to get this too sometimes when I use to remember my dreams a lot. I would have a hard time telling the difference between real live memory and a dream memory sometimes. But I have rarely if ever had a problem telling reality from dream reality. And if I was in a dream, and I thought it was real. It would be superficial. So I would hardly have any consciousness and then I would claim this is real. The best way you can know for sure is to look around you for a LOT of detail and color. If you have a hard time getting that. Then you know it's a dream. Unless your so drugged up you still can truly tell. I've never been that drugged up. LOL

Peace.

The false memories I speak of were imprinted in my memory while not consciously aware of them, while Dreaming. If I was Lucid/consciously aware at the time, I would be able to KNOW that this was a Dream memory.
The ones I talk about are false memories of being somewhere or doing something, but the only way I could rationally hypothesize how those memories got there is through "unconscious" Dreams/NPR adventures.

I had this happen a lot when I was younger.  I've never been sure where the 'first' "false memories" began- perhaps they were previous incarnation information?  Anyway- it's funny how they build up- you can trace them back and form a whole 'alternate' lifetime of them.
