Hi.  I bet there must be a lot of topics like this already.  I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before, but I'm brand new to the world of OBE's and I have some questions.

Okay, here goes.

1.  Is "the falling dream" anything like an OBE?  I tend to get the falling dream right as I fall asleep and then get startled when I fall and wake up again.

2.  I just started attempting projecting last night.  I felt the swaying, like on a hammock, and I heard a ringing and felt a tingling in my limbs.  I also felt like I was floating a bit.  Am I on the right track?

3.  If I am on the right track, what am I to do next to start the OBE?

4.  I've had a lot of dreams where I remember flying and I remember the feeling of flying.  The way I thought of putting my energy beneath myself and going upwards.  Was this an OBE or a lucid dream?

5.  Does doing an OBE hurt your eyesight or strength?  That question must sound silly, but those are my only fears holding me back.

6.  If one is having an OBE on say, a sick day, and during their OBE goes to where they should be at work at that time, can they see what is happening at work as it is happening?

That's all I can think of at this time.  Sorry if my questions are foolish, but I'm really new to all of this.  Thanks for your help!

I'm still new to attempting astral projections, and those are among my questions too among many more, but the only thing I can tell you is not to have any fear as fear is the only thing that can turn something like a pleasant obe to a scary realm that you wanna get away from.  Remember, theres nothing to fear but fear itself.  Get rid of any negative thoughts or feelings you have if you want a positive experience.  Thats all I know.

Hi mouse and welcome!!

I would be glad to help you as much as I can (though I too am a bit of a novice)..

Quote1. Is "the falling dream" anything like an OBE? I tend to get the falling dream right as I fall asleep and then get startled when I fall and wake up again.

When you sleep, an astral body is generated, and it exits your body to absorb energy.  It is pretty much accepted that this feeling is associated with the astral "body" going back into the body with a good amount of force.  The sudden entry causes the falling sensation and wakes you up

Quote2. I just started attempting projecting last night. I felt the swaying, like on a hammock, and I heard a ringing and felt a tingling in my limbs. I also felt like I was floating a bit. Am I on the right track?

All of those are good signs that you are on your way to projecting.  When I was just starting out with OBEs the hammock swaying sensation was very common.  Sounds like you are on the right track.

Quote3. If I am on the right track, what am I to do next to start the OBE?

This is kind of difficult to answer because everyone is different when it comes to actually having an OBE.  What you should be trying to achieve, though, is for your body to "fall asleep" while your mind stays awake.  This is a great projection setting.  Once that happens, you can use one of a million techniques for actually getting out, or come up with one of your own.

The Search button in this forum is an awesome tool...it is chock full of different techniques.

Cube is awesome with coming up with techniques/methods..

Quote4. I've had a lot of dreams where I remember flying and I remember the feeling of flying. The way I thought of putting my energy beneath myself and going upwards. Was this an OBE or a lucid dream?

Yes flying dreams are awesome, aren't they?  A lucid dream is one where you are aware that you are dreaming, and usually have conscious control over the dream.  So unless you were aware that you were dreaming, it wasn't a lucid dream.  Many people think lucid dreams take place out of body, and many believe that some normal dreams take place out of the body.  So as to whether it was an OBE or not....maybe.

Quote5. Does doing an OBE hurt your eyesight or strength? That question must sound silly, but those are my only fears holding me back.

Nope, going out of body has no physical adverse effects whatsoever, no matter what..so don't worry about it.  Not a silly question at all...all newcomers have fears like this, and it's very good to get those fears cleared up, as they will hinder your OBE success.

Quote6. If one is having an OBE on say, a sick day, and during their OBE goes to where they should be at work at that time, can they see what is happening at work as it is happening?

Yes!  If you project into RTZ ((real time zone..this is the realm closes to real life.  It is a near exact "copy" of physical life.)) then this is very possible.

Welp, I hope I helped you out.  Feel free to ask more questions.  Good luck and peace!

Thanks for the answers, kerbe6 and Leprechaun!

One last question, and I think I already know the answer...just making sure...

When you're in an OBE, and someone "wakes" your body up, you just come back, right?  Like the way you wake up from sleep?

Thanks again!

I DID IT!!  I had an OBE last night!!  I'll try to remember exactly what happened:

I decided to try cube's "let your body fall asleep by ignoring discomfort" method.

(I had fallen asleep at about 11 PM and a dog barking woke me up at 3 AM ish.  After I took out the garbage and stuff and felt sleepy again, I attempted to project.)

First, I relaxed myself in my normal sleeping position.  Then I made sure to remain completely still.  After about 10 minutes or so, I felt like my back was tightening up (at the place of an old injury) but I ignored it, and sure enough, my body felt heavy and I heard a dull ringing.  Even though I was close to mentally snoozing off at this point, I became wide-awake (mentally) at this sensation.  After that, I was sort of on "auto-pilot".  I was awake, but I wasn't thinking too hard.  Sort of like a reflex, I started "log rolling" to my left.  When I was rolling I heard a loud (but not too loud or painful...just weird) roaring buzz...sound...thing...I guess I could akin the sound to when you hang upside down for a while and get up too fast and the blood rushes to your head and you hear a "clogged" sound.  About half-way through the log roll, I thought, "Boy, wouldn't this be silly if I'm moving my physical body instead.  I'll fall out of bed and make a thud!".  But I rationalized by thinking, "Well, I know it won't hurt to fall out of the bed, and I'm not afraid of what will happen."  So I finished the roll, and I was kinda floating next to my bed.  I remember looking down to see my shirt, and expecting the blue shirt I had on, I was surprised to see red light and yellow triangles of light where my shirt would be.  It looked like a funky wool sweater, really.  Then it was over.  After like 5 seconds.

But it was sooo cool!  It was quite the experience!

Oh, and a note.  I sleep flat on my stomach.  I can't sleep on my back for the life of me, and trying to project that way the other night proved unsuccessful.  And when I "log rolled" I remember I was laying on my right side (which is a position I can't sleep in).  That struck me as kind of odd...but I'm just so excited!  On my second night of trying, I projected!  :D

So...I have two more questions for now...

1.  How long can OBE's last?  As long as I sleep?  Or is there some kind of limit?  I know to take it slow until I get really comfortable with everything.

2.  What should I do the next time I have an OBE?  Should I practice moving around or something?

I just want to thank kerbe6 again for all the help you've given me!  :)

Awesome!!  :D

It was a short projection, but that's what is recommended for beginners.  That roaring buzz sound is pretty interesting eh?

Quote1. How long can OBE's last? As long as I sleep? Or is there some kind of limit? I know to take it slow until I get really comfortable with everything.

Well, most of them are cut pretty short..around 1-10 minutes I would say.  Although, as stated in Astral Dynamics, if you stay out until your physical body goes into a deep sleep then you will be pretty much stuck out until you exit that REM cycle, or something wakes you.

There are no set limits though that I know of...

Quote2. What should I do the next time I have an OBE? Should I practice moving around or something?

Sure!  Moving is easy (in most cases)...just think about doing it..feels like second nature.   You really should keep early OBEs short, and there isn't much that you can do in a short time.  Just practice moving around, experiment with your eyesight, observe your room, observe your own astral body (there really isn't a body, but your subconscious mind supplies it), try stretching your limbs really far, imagine you are getting smaller and smaller and eventually you will be but a spec in your room.  Basically just get the feel of being out of body.

QuoteI just want to thank kerbe6 again for all the help you've given me!

No problem...I'm really happy that I was able to help you have an OBE!!
