What is Bright Light appearance behind closed eyes?

Hey all!
Great Forum and Info first off; and thanks to all in advance!!!

I am new to the "controlled" OOB/AP's but not to spontaneous ones.
Anyway, I have poured over posts from here and other forums and am experiencing essentially the same 'symptoms' that lead up to AP/OOB. etc.

But, I am also getting a milky to a bright whiteness/light- sort of occurrence behind my normally dark/black closed eyes (And a black tshirt folded and completely sealing out any outside light).
This is not an instantaneous flash of light, but rather a slow and gradual increase of a 'white-out' if you will, that originates from the upper left corner of my forehead, and fans out across both eyes and increases in intensity, replacing darkness with brightness.
I have this occurrence with Each and every attempt, and very soon after the racing heart (or heart chakra-thing). Each lasts several seconds until I guess my broken concentration (hard to not ignore this for me at this point) causes this to fade as gradually as it's onset.

As I get better with practice, these are more frequent and prolonged.
Any clues as to what is going on?

Thanks! :D  and apologies if this is a dumb question...I am a greenhorn

That sounds the same as what I've had. My heart started to race and the bright white light came in. As far as I can tell, it's the actual heart, because the pulse was racing in my wrist as well. Haven't had an OBE but am also curious about if this is supposed to happen.

I experience exactly the same thing. And I don't know what it is. Could be purely physiological or maybe something else. Anybody knows?

I think that it's from concentrating on your heart beat too much, making it go quicker than normal. The lights could be caused by the increase in blood. Reminded me of when I had an anxiety attack, but I could be wrong in my thinking, so I'll stop now.

I don`t think this is the case with me... I see the bright light when totally relaxed and peaceful. Only later I may experience some OBE symptoms and increased heart rate... The light seems to come and go, it is pretty amazing. Before I used to get startled by bright light flashes ( I read that from other ppl`s accounts as well), could be neurones discharging, but weird though...

Thanks for the replies everyone!

And Big Thanks MajTom for the post in Faqs about Focus Levels! Wonderfully written! My husband and I are finally attending Gateways next week; this willl surely be instrumental in our experience! Thanks again :)

I am not getting as much of the light effect now, but I have had HUGE increase of pressure in my forehead/brow area. I am getting more and more relaxed, so feel I am progressing there, although when doing the ROPE, I can climb and climb and climb (I swear over 200 miles now!) with very vivid attention and concentration (I use to do a lot of rope climbing/training during competition days, so my mental 'climbing' feels very natural), but not getting any significant 'separation' feelings other than the head pressures:
I am getting increased pressures in nasal and brow, but not the racing heart and following light...??? My body does feel muuuuuuch more relaxed though during these exercise. I can only go for 1.5 hours, then I get pressure points that impede the paralysis/limp rag feeling.

OK, onward and upward.

thanks for the advice and encouragement!

That happened to me when I was riding my bike home from my uncles place yesterday...FLASH!

Then I remembered what Robert Bruce wrote about brow chakra "strobing"-although I forget the details of what he wrote.
