During transition, how do you control what happens?

Most of my AP attempts have been freaky/painful.  It feels like I'm having a heart attack so I back away.  I read somewhere that the feeling will pass if you simply calm down, but it seems to real to stay calm through it.  Is there any sure fire way to avoid that type of transition?  The few times I had a smooth transition I couldn't recall there being any differences between what I had done prior to exiting.

Practice.  The transition is an experience, nothing more.  The more you do it the less 'shocked' your conscious awareness is and the quicker it goes, until it becomes barely noticeable.  That's why most projectors stop having symptoms such as vibes and such after some time.
So, to make it not be so traumatic, do it a lot.  I'm sure this applies to many things in life.

true-- experience an practice will help -- does help a lot.  :-)

When you say that it "feels like a heart attack"... do you mean that you're experiencing what feels like your heart beating a million times a minute?
If so, then you should know that that's relatively normal and it's not even your real heart supposedly beating, it's your heart chakra.

It's more like a heart attack.  Hurts something terrible.  Scares the poop out of me.  But that doesn't always happen.  I can't figure out what triggers that either.  Perhaps my mind is too alert, too conscious for the smoother crossover.  Perhaps I need to lose consciousness for a split second to connect smoothly.  It's awful to dread the next episode since I never know when it's going to happen, but it sure kills my experience and quick like.  I always try to project during the afternoon when my energy level is highest.  Perhaps I have too much energy and it's being processed by my body the wrong way.  I just don't know.  Is anyone else's experience like mine?

One thing I want to mention- I have been having OOBE since I was a kid. And while becoming aware of SP, I was usually completely freaked out- And then that was followed closely by the vibrations everyone speaks of. . . I just want to put out there that for me, I learned to bypass the awareness of SP- or at least I can go past it so fast that I do not dwell on it most times.  But, I think the vibrations are still a necessary part of the OOBE for me.  If I do not pay attention to how they start, and get them to a particular level, I do not have a successful projection.  And if I return to my body after one trip, I usually will try to rev the vibrations up again and do a second projection, and maybe a third.  Sometimes, those later experiences can be the best of the cluster.  If the vibrations fade too much for me, I go nowhere and usually turn over and go to sleep.

j, you are putting too much emphasis on body sensations and not on mental process, which is what you should be doing.  To OBE you have to 'leave' the body 'behind' (in focus) and concentrate on what your mind is doing, not your body.  Only then will you succeed.  Focusing on your body sensations will only keep you 'in'.

Lol, I remember the first time I got vibes - I thought I was being possessed :X

I read about the vibes long before I had my first experience with them.
They were so nice and toasty warm... hehe
