Failed Reality Check

I'm not exactly sure how to explain this. Last night I had a false awakening though in the back of my mind, I thought my physical body was moving while I was dreaming of the false awakening. I felt my physical body get out of bed, and fall to the floor, as I was dreaming of a false awakening (like I said, hard to explain). I began to wonder if I was in the transition stage of astral projection, from a dream. So as I felt my physical body, kneeling on the floor, I was conscious in a dream like state, surrounded by hallucinated scenery behind my closed eyelids. I tried to dispel the dream scenery to enter the astral realm (as I've heard that's how it's done). After consciously and willingly dispelling my dream scenery, I open my eyes to see that I'm actually on the floor. I stand up to do a reality check. I plug my nose, and I can no longer breath. I take a good look around me, and everything seems 100% real. I look at my hands. Nothing wrong with them, all five fingers, not melting, can't put them through eachother. I get up and look at my bed, I don't see myself on it. Though I was still not convinced I was awake. I walk down stairs and at some point, loose consciousness. I awake later in my bed (with the memory of a dream I had later on, after I had lost consciousness).

does this sound like astral projection? why would the reality checks have failed?

(I have been practicing astral projection for about two months now and have gotten no further than intense vibrations and dissociation.)

Omg that sounds really wierd, although im learning that nothing is quite as accurate as you hope with this. I think when you are starting out like you, and myself after 3 months, everything gets a bit muddled.

The main thing is you are experiencing stuff. Remember about reality problems in the realtime zone, things fluctuate depending on you and your thinking at the time. I saw my cinema sound system at the end of the bed clearly, but with another dvd player on top i dont own, so theres no reason for that, but it was there during a flash.

Hmmm is is possible that you were really awake, but then at some point when you were walking around, kind of lost awareness, like sleep walking?  It's not impossible, because MANY people have done things and looked completely awake, but were really doing 'automatic behavior' and were asleep.  You could have started out kind of awake, but you had some rem elements still there (hypnapompic hallucinations) that never really wore off... instead as you were out, you could have feel back asleep and continued to move physically and made it back to your bed because that is a behavior that is always carried out, so your body knows automatically how to do it, even if you are unaware.

On the other hand, it could have been a true false awakening.  Just because your reality check failed doesnt mean you were really awake, since those elements could have been part of the reality of the dream.

The thing is, this has happened to me once before (see the "very strange" topic I started, in Astral Experiences). I've finally come to understand how a dream is separate from an OBE by reading up on Robert Peterson, who explains that when you dream, you're unconscious is on the astral plane, and what you're perceiving is a hallucination. Ultimately, dreaming is just your subconscious taking over. I figure that when I have these "false awakenings", I'm becoming aware of my astral body, but still seeing the hallucinated dream scenery. Just a theory.

That's possible, but doesn't seem probable in my situation, as I've never sleep walked before. The entire time I was concious I was trying to prove that I wasn't awake (I was actually -trying- to make my hands melt. haha). I was quite suspicious. I continued on with a pretty vivid dream afterwards, though I was no longer lucid:

Dream:
After "walking down the stairs", I lost focus, as I began to accept my surroundings as physical, ultimately loosing my lucidity. I literally remember hallucinations beginning to appear around me as I began to loose consciousness until I ultimately fell prey to my own subconscious. Sometime after that I dreamed I was in my room, on the computer. Then someone came in and started watching a movie on the nearby television. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary (at the time), and everything seemed real. The only thing that seemed out of place was that there was a small radiator next to me. But as I realized this, and found it to be strange and out of place, this is when I awoke.

After reading Robert Peterson's material, I believe I could've been OOB, then lost focus, forcing dream scenery (hallucinations) to take over.

Though I'm not 100% sure, here's basically what I think happened:
-I became aware of my astral body (within a dream)
-Became lucid in my dream
-Tried to move my astral body (while still in a dream)
-Forcefully dispelled my dream scenery
-Became aware in the Astral
-Lost focus
-Returned to a dream

If this is the case, this would be my first conscious visit to RTZ astral plane

(also, an important thing to mention: at an attempt to induce vivid/lucid dreaming, I took 396mg of potassium, 100mg of 5-HTP, 470mg of Valerian, and 1mg of melatonin before going to sleep. yeah, that's probably a significant bit of information. haha)

Synergy

5-HTP will do it!  Wierd and vivid dreams for sure!  It's right in the list of side effects, so far as to say even nightmares!

I'd place my bets on lucid dreaming, allthough do you have any referance to check wheter you might have been sleepwalking or not? Otherwise seems like a lucid dream. Those are damn powerfull...  I've learned to appreciate them more then OBE's cos they simply own OBE's coz they are so damn real. I dont know about me, but OBE's never gave me much more knowledge than the fact that its posible... Lucid Dreams gave me a whole lot more.... Akashic Records, for instance.... I never believed in that before I saw it in a lucid dream... and not to mention the soul depositrory function....  how do we link this stuff?

Maybe you had a normal (non lucid) dream about this reality check failing? And that's what you're remembering. If you perform this check lucidly it really can't fail in my experience. Its failing would have to mean that you're awake, but then why would you wake up in your bed later?
This is a first in my experience......
