I believe I finally did it! I've had about a dozen very close projections where I've just been stuck in my physical body, but I've never been able to fully get out and move around.
Just now during my morning projection attempt, I woke up about an hour into it with the high pitched ringing noise. The constant ringing in my ears has actually been a huge blessing because it has made projection 10x easier. All I have to do is focus on the ringing noise when I hear it and it immediately becomes jet-engine loud and I then hear the star-trek beeping sounds and boom...I phase into my astral body. This is what happened today as usual, the only difference is I waited before trying to roll out, until I felt my astral limbs rising up. Sure enough I felt my leg start to float up, so I went with it (I was laying face down) and heel-kicked my way out, grabbed the side of my bed and pulled myself onto the floor! I immediately looked at my astral hands and noticed they were white and dimly sparkling, like ghost hands. I was beside myself excited so I just kept crawling towards the door knowing I would go right through it. Sure enough I did and it was the coolest feeling! I continued to crawl down my hallway, still having very low awareness and feeling like I was drugged up. I passed my bathroom door and decided not to look at myself in the mirror cuz I've heard people say not to. I really wanted to make it outside so I could fly. I crawled all the way into my living room and as soon as I crawled out the front door everything went bright, and my physical eyes opened.
I am only wondering if this was real because it felt very dream like. Pretty much just like a lucid dream. Probably one small notch above an LD on the "awareness" scale but not by much. Either way it was the most exhilarating experience and I can't wait to do it again!

Sounds very well like it could have been an OBE. The thing that I would say is that it sounds very much like you are making progress. Regardless if it was real or not. We know that LD's lucid dreams can lead to astral projections. So keep up the good work, your doing great. Personally I think it was likely an OBE. First time OBE's can be dull or dream like, lucid dream like from what I seem to remember.
Peace.

Definitely a Projection! Congrats! :)

I'm extremely happy you mentioned this part too.
A lucid dream is every bit as much a projection as what you experienced.
I like how you have begun to find the separation point between labels as being nothing more than just simply "how aware you are".
In this case, definitely NOT a "lucid awareness experience"... a lot closer to an "astral awareness experience" in my opinion, quite possibly a full one... regardless of how "drugged up" you felt. That's secondary to the simple fact you were non-physical AND you seemed to have your full waking awareness.
Congratulations! You not only did it, you banged it out of the park. :)
Way to go Aaron!!!
Can we break out the bubbly now?! That was a good standard RTZ obe and, as Xanth said, you got most everything you could expect out of a first-time obe!
The 'drugged' feeling will diminish with further experiences and your awareness will build. Plus, you will start developing your senses and 'motor' skills!
And you get a new understanding of phrases like-"I was beside myself with excitement!" :-D
Glad to see all your hard work and effort has paid off! Now you KNOW you can do it!
The smoky blue hands with sparkly bits are a sign of verification if you knew nothing of this.
remember you can float away like smoke. Crawling worked, a little less dignified, but it worked and thats all that matters.
We'll see you out there soon. :-D
Champagne opened.
Congrats Aaron! :-)
Welcome to the wonderful world of AP! :-)
Your hard work and determination has paid off. Now comes the fun part!
Wow thank you guys so much for the support and encouragement! It feels so good to be able to celebrate with people who actually care about this, since nobody in my actual life does lol. I tell my best friend about it and he pretends to be happy for me but I know him, he totally thinks I'm making it all up for attention or something. So I don't really talk about it with him.
Thanks for the confirmation that it was an OBE, as I'm 99% sure it was as well because I went through the entire phasing process beforehand, I felt my astral limbs start moving, and I was consciously aware of what was happening from the second I heard the high pitched ringing.
From what I've learned, the more you have them the more your awareness increases and the more lucid they become, right?
(edit: just re-read EV's post and saw that this question was already answered lol. Thanks EV!)
As well as the fact that having your first OBE is the hardest part, and it tends to get easier from there?

Not necessarily easier, just different.
You needed to have a physical RTZ OBE to believe you did have one. Pretty soon you won't need all of the RTZ effects. You will just release the need that you have to "climb' out of your body and things will change quickly for you . You will also see that you just need to get out of the way and ALLOW the shift to occur. Some day down the line you will see this for yourself and because of that, you shall! :-)
It comes through "baby steps", just like any other major change in our lives does.
Amazing Aaron!!!! I am so happy for you!!!! :-D
Wow! That's a wisely spoken insight from Lionheart!
"You needed to have a physical RTZ OBE to believe you did have one."
You need to file that one away for future reference. It may not make complete sense now, but it's a little diamond for the future...
OMG OMG OMG!!
I projected again this morning completely unintentionally, and it was an actual AP this time!! Please excuse my crazy excitement right now because I am just blown away that this happened! I definitely need some help making sense of this experience though.
Should I just post it here or should I create a separate thread with it??
P.S- Thank you for that sound insight Lion, that makes a lot of sense and I will definitely file that one away.
Forget it, I'm just going to post it in here because I'm too excited and I just want to hear feedback, lol! This was actually a very long experience and a lot of stuff happened (much of which I can't remember), so I will condense it as much as possible.
Last night I woke up at 3:30 am and could not fall back asleep until 6:30 due to a thunderstorm. Once my wife got up at 7:15, I put my eye-cover on and tried to get maybe another hour of sleep. As I had drifted into REM, the loud ringing came in my ears to my surprise, and I focused on it. It immediately got jet-engine loud and I felt myself phase out and my astral limbs started moving. I rolled out of my bed and started crawling. I thought I would try to stand up, so I did and I was fumbling about everywhere, couldn't see at all. I would hear the ringing come back and feel myself laying down again, to which I would pop out of my body again. Each time I heard it I simply focused on it again to keep my awareness in the astral. The third time, I walked out into the kitchen, still not being able to see very well. I demanded eye sight and suddenly I could see! Everything looked different than in real life, and my wife was out there making breakfast or something. I started putting my hands through her and it was almost as if she noticed. Then I started floating around up on the ceiling and saying "look i'm flying!". But I couldn't stay up in the air very long. Our kitchen looked very different and I knew it wasn't the RTZ for some reason. My wife was complaining about trying to open something or whatever and couldn't. I tried to remember this so I could tell her later to see if it was an RTZ projection or not, but once I woke up later I realized it definitely was not.
After messing around for a few minutes, I tried to wake back up in my body, but I was paralyzed and couldn't wake up! I said out loud "I want to wake up!" but nothing happened. I tried to kick and jolt about on my bed almost like throwing a temper tantrum, and I thought for a minute I was awake but it was only my astral body which was flailing about. I laid there for a minute frustrated and not knowing what to do. The ringing came again very loud and so I said "what the heck lets go again!" and I phased again.
As I was phasing to the ringing noise, I was looking at some cartoon looking mobster/gangster guy from the 20's or something (suit and top hat on, smoking a cigar tommy gun in hand), so I focused on him and suddenly I knew I was in a huge room because I could hear all these people talking and things happening. I was fumbling around in total darkness and I couldn't see a thing. I demanded sight now probably twice and things started looking clearer. A third time I pounded the ground with my fists in frustration (i was on my knees again) and said "I WANT MY EYE SIGHT NOW!" and suddenly I could see! I was in a huge rectangular room with a low ceiling where all these Pixar cartoon looking people were watching a movie (with the gangster guy on the screen), sitting at round tables and such like some sort of company awards ceremony set up...but they were all pixar cartoon versions of people! I realized I had been standing here front and center for a while probably looking like an idiot screaming about not being able to see. I didn't care that much everyone was staring at me because I was finally freaking projecting and it was so cool!! I walked to the back of room thinking "wow I must be somewhere in focus 3 of the astral!" and I remembered reading about how there are infinite dimensions with strange things, people and characters in the astral, and I must be at one of these places. So I made my way to the back of the room while everyone nervously stared at me, and I waited there for a second, until everyone looked away, trying to contain my sheer excitement. There was a really ugly bald guy sitting closest to me, and I remembered Robert Monroe saying he can stretch his arm, so I wanted to try it out. I stretched my arm out and grabbed the top of his bald head and pulled him towards me sitting in his chair. He looked at me, obviously pretty scared and so I pushed him back with my stretch arm. When I pushed him back his whole face was jumbled up like happens on cartoons sometimes! Then the whole room was staring at me again and talking like "what is going on here? Who is this person?" so I thought I'd better get the hell out of there. I phased out to somewhere else (can't really remember at this point because it was so long, but I was trying to fly again) and as soon as I did my wife came in the room with my dog and it woke up my physical finally.
This was definitely another notch up on the awareness scale from yesterday's OBE. Remembering it, it just feels like an extremely Lucid Dream, but I know it had to be a projection because of the way I kept phasing with the ringing noise. Based on my little knowledge of Astral Projection thus far, I think I was definitely in Focus 2 when I projected into what I thought was the RTZ. This was clearly some sort of imagined double of my house and my wife. I am not sure if the second experience was somewhere actually in the Astral (focus 3) or if it was focus 2 again. Please let me know what you think about this.
Worth noting, when I told my wife about this experience, she told me that while she was getting ready she heard me whisper her name, and it startled her and she turned around to see if I was there, but I wasn't. I remember calling her name a few times when I was fumbling around in the dark, and again when I projected into what I thought was our kitchen. I called her name to see if she could hear me. Any ideas if this may have been real?
What can I say, you did it again Aaron. Great job. And it seems that thunder storm gave you the WBTB technique to make it work better perhaps. I personally think this is the best technique for practicing astral projection when first starting. Let me ask where was your wife when she heard the whisper of you in real life and where were you in the astral fumbling around when you said her name?

She was in the bathroom getting ready, I was probably in our room or hallway when I said her name. I don't remember much of that part to be honest, but I remember saying it a couple of different times during the initial few projections. I knew she was getting ready so as soon as I got out I made a B line to find her, but it took 2-3 tries until I could see anything. It very well may just be a coincidence, I'm not sure. It's just a funny one if it is because she's never claimed to have heard me whisper her name since we've known each other

Yeah sounds a bit odd and perhaps like a real encounter. Well you can always try it again to see if you can get an objective experience. I've had paranormal encounters a few times. It's not impossible we've all heard of astral projectors that have communicated with people in real life. And even manifested the etheric body. I'd be curious what some of the others have to say.
Peace.

Yes, and then there is Robert Monroe who has poked people, been seen visually as a floating whisp, listened into conversations, etc all which were confirmed by the person. That pretty much blows my mind lol
You've obviously programmed your subconcious well. To get a decent length projection early on is a good sign of this.
Keep doing the same in ALLOWING the natural process to flow freely.
It proves all the words read on forcing this having a negative effect.
No expectations paid off.
The SP and being locked in the NP worked too. You had no fears and used this to get out again.
Listening to a conversation is far better than looking for a picture or 'test card'. The visuals can be greatly affected by the slightest thought and you end up seeing something related to the real subject in the location.
Demanding sight works if your intent on getting it is high. Once away from the sleeping body you should expect it to be crystal clear and having this expectation once your out there should be enough to give it to you instantly. It's another thing to put in your mind whilst awake in the physical so it too gets put into the subconcious.
Aaron, I'll throw out a few more thought-starters, but I don't want to risk confusing things too much.
The temptation is very strong to 'fit' your experiences into a template that you are considering, whether it's the Monroe Focus template, the Kepple template or the Theosophical template, etc.... if you get to the point where you feel that you are trying to pound a square peg into a round hole, then stop and back off. Keep in mind that all these experiences fit under the NPR umbrella, so just leave it there until you gather more experiences to relate to the former.
What really helps is more experiences and you are progressing nicely.
You now have at least 3 strong NP datapoints which should help you begin to develop your senses of space, time, position, navigation (the Leland template). You've been to the RTZ/Etheric, you've been to the Astral (somewhere?) and you've been to the Void (remember that? Lol).
Now for me, each of these places has a distinct 'feel'. They range from the heavy/dense to the lighter/with-body to the even-lighter/point consciousness.
In the Physical, thought, emotion and action are linked in ways but still somewhat distinct things. In the NP, all three are much more closely inter-related along with a fourth component, the energetic signature of a person, place or thing or idea. You have to learn to 'feel' for that, as well.
In the NP it becomes apparent at some point that everything is a test of some sort and contains a lesson within it, if you will only look for it.
Have fun!

Thank you both for taking the time to read and respond, that was exactly the kind of advice and insight I was looking for. It is difficult for me to know exactly where the heck I went or what the heck was happening, but it's so exciting to have a first projection that I want to be able to make sense of it right away lol. Szaxx that makes a lot of sense to me in relation to the "RTZ" concepts. It's good to know all the hard work I've spent over the last few months has paid off in terms of programming my subconscious. I have a better handle on "allowing" it to happen I think, as I've attempted to project 5 or 6 more times since Thursday morning with no luck at all. I don't let it bother me though, just keep pressing on!
And EV I like what you said about not trying to force my experiences into certain templates but better understanding will come with time. I'm eager to make sense of things like "were these real entities I was encountering, or were they just creations of my imagination?". But I suppose that's not the important question. I will take your advice about trying to learn from the experience.
Thanks again guys!
