Foot falling asleep

Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure exactly where to put this topic, but since I am looking to have obe's as my ultimate goal, I put it here.

First off, I've just started reading about astral projection and OBE's a few days ago.  Right now, I'm not even really attempting to get to the OBE, rather, I am just practicing on meditating and really concentrating.

Anyway, last night, I was concentrating on my breathing (I was trying to imaging breathing in clean, blue air, and breathing out bad, smoggy air), and it was working successfully.  Granted, I had many interruptions (as I am still a novice), but I was able to stop most of them.

After about 10 minutes or so I felt my feet falling asleep.  My question is, was this from the meditation? or could it have just been because they were tired?  I had been driving most of the day, so they were tired to begin with, but is this the sort of feelings and "numbness" I should expect through my entire body as I progress?

Eventually, I couldn't take my mind off my sleeping feet (it actually went all the way to the knee), and lost concentration, so I just went to sleep instead.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

Is this the kind of falling alseep which means getting "pins and needles" in the affected area? Or do you mean a loss of sensory perception of that body part?

It was closer to pins and needles than a loss of sensory perception (although I couldn't really wiggle my toes at all).  However, it wasn't necessarily as strong as the "normal" pins and needles I would ususally get.

I would say from experience that you shouldn't get that form of pins and needles from meditation. When you got up after the meditation, did your legs feel a bit numb? (you know when you normally have pins and needles and then for a little while later its awkward to use the effected area).

I ask this as it might help determine what sort of pins and needles you experienced (it could have been intense energy movement - or a trapped nerve ;) )

Hmm..its hard to remember.  I think, however, that it did feel fairly similar to the after-effect of regular pins and needles.

The main reason it felt weird or different was that it happened in both feet at the same time, which never happened before.

Thanks for all the help so far!

If there was an after effect like normal pins and needles, I would suggest that either a nerve or vein was restricted during the meditation.

Although, re-reading your original post, there is a possibility that the meditation caused the sensations in your very tired feet to increase. Meditation will bring out hundreds of aches, which can seem quite sharp during the meditation, yet were unnoticed during the day. Also, existing aches can become increased as the meditation lowers adrenaline and other body chemical levels.

What I'd suggest is to meditate in the same position on a day where you body is feeling rested (perhaps after waking in the morning might be best for this) and see if it reoccurs. If it does, there's a chance you are somehow pinching a nerve or restricting a vein – if not, then it was an effect of the meditation and tired feet :)
