What is your experience with willing yourself to feel a certain way while in the astral? We may be used to our environment causing our emotions to go up and down. Perhaps we may have direct control over them ourselves. I mean, at least, here we don't necessarily have to have a life event create a corresponding emotion. It may be something as abstract as biochemicals, or light, that changes our mood. It'd be very useful in a variety of situations, such as an entity that taps into your instinctual fears to get an upper hand in a confrontation.

You have direct control over them NOW.  You don't need to be in the non-physical to do it.
You always choose how you react to a situation.

I do agree that we always have a choice as to how we allow something to affect us but it is very hard to stop our initial responses from rising up within.

It can take many exposures to an event to become capable of stopping our automatic responses from kicking in and that isn't always a good thing unless your job demands it of you (police officer, fireman, soldier, etc.).

In regards to the astral, dealing with our emotions is one of the greatest benefits we can get out of it. This too, takes repeated exposure and it is always a good thing because the benefits are tangible and carry over into our waking lives.

People who deal with terrible nightmares or even night terror, may beg to differ but the key difference is that they aren't operating with their awareness and thus have no control or rational reasoning abilities.

I often read where some people are afraid to encounter their worst fears in the astral and I can't help but feel sorry for them. They just have no idea how much it will benefit them to do so. :-)

So to answer your initial question, repeated exposure by direct confrontation will teach you how to handle your response to the emotions that you feel. I don't think the answer is to stop feeling emotions. :-)

It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

This says it all right there!  :-)

Although many people can't help being "disoriented" and frightened while undergoing a spontaneous LD/OBE or Sleep Paralysis. They don't know why or what is even happening. Knowledge is everything!

You'll find that within you is another personality in the NP. The rules there are different, the fluidity and distraction factor is immense and not present in the physical.
One big step to take is removing the debilitating fear factor. Once this is achieved the results of understanding the freedom available to create, are boundless.
Be sensible, the rest of your experiences are linked to this.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.
