Good Evening every one!!

I (and a friend) we're wondering if you could help us with getting ourself to actually START doing meditation ( thats the beginning, so need to start somewhere aye ?    )

Anyway, We both have been reading up on spirituality (I myself even got the book of Mr Robert Bruce, and am almost done reading it)
and where both VERY interested....

But I just cannot get myself to really start. On some evenings I try and meditate, sitting or in bed. Same when I am taking a shower in the morning (I usually sit down ). But not on a regulary basis...

Also, I'm very interested about Healing, I might just be able to help some people around me with it ( you never now    ). But also this needs a place called start.

SO we where wondering if any of you people had the same problem and came to a solution, or have on that might work.

It is not that we do not have the time, I have al the time in the evenings, and my friend has all day (he's unemployed) although I do use this as an excuse..

Well I'm sorry for a long post that could be a lot shorter but ok, maybe I entertained someone with it ;)

I hope you can help me (us) with this!!!

Thank you for already taking the time to read  :P

Kind Regards, Denubis!

PS, sorry if I posted this in the wrong topic

do or do not. There is no try.

Instead of spending time posting on this forum to ask us to help you motivate yourself why not just spend some time trance meditating.

if it helps,
I started meditating at night becuase I had trouble sleeping and this helped alot.  This is not good for longterm though because you start to associate meditating with sleeping.  just a thought.

Before you go to bed is a good time jsut to begin.  Lay down, on your back, hands by your side, totally relaxed and just try not to move at all.  Just lay there thinking about nothing but breathing and your heartbeat.  Don't move for anything, the phone, an annoying itch.  Don't think about it and it will go away.  Start by doing that because everyone sleeps.  Don't worry if you fall asleep, go to be a little earlier, it'll help.  You'll know you're getting somewhere if you feel kind of tingly and numb.  As for motivation, the pure desire to achieve an OBE should be enough (if it's strong enough)

You raise a very interesting question.

It actually applies to everything.

Things seem impossible to reach, but the key is to realise
small things add up.

Even spending 15 minutes of meditation is useful.
The key is just to start.   If you can't even make 15 mins-30 mins, you really need to seriously evaluate your life and work.

Nothing is as important than starting your path to spirituality.

I think the reason buddhists, forgoe everything material, and the pursuit
of the material, is that in reality the material is meaningless !

I think it might help you to start off by using "guided meditations" on CD with headphones.   Buying the CD would be the start.  Then after you buy it, you'll want to listen to it.  After the guided meditations you can try meditational music.  Do this for a while and soon, I think, you will be able to sit and try to meditate on your own.

I don't think it's so much not being able to start, but maybe not knowing what to do when you do start.  The CD's will help get you into the meditation habit and the right frame of mind.

When you start meditating on your own, without the CD's, you might try using a mantra.  It can be any word, really, that you repeat over and over in your mind which will help block other thoughts from entering.  Focusing on your breathing and counting your breaths does the same thing.

Anyway, these are just some thoughts that might help you get started.

I use white noise to block out sound and thoughts.

Oh, and by meditate, whenever anyone says that, I think of the whole cross legged genie think with monk guys going 'ommm'  Does it just mean a deeper state of relaxation or what?

Cheers guys,

I gues ( and know ) your right, but I always had trouble with putting down the first step and sticking to it. After that it'll be ok.

I gues You'r all right, so I'll do my best to meditate for 15 minutes every evening for the comming week, to see how that goes, Good exercise in weekend as I wont be sleeping at home. Also might have some time when in Church ( I'm not religious, but my GF goes once in a while, so I go with her )

Anyway, dinner is almost ready. Thanks all

P.S; Thnx EnderZ!
