AP Friends,

I know this topic has been discussed briefly here at AP, but never really discussed in-depth, studied, or researched.

In one of my latest radio interviews, I was talking with the host about "blind people" who can visualize objects, colors, textures during a Near Death or Out of Body experience. I would like to probe this further for any data that is out there on studies, publications of the present.

Would people here know anyone who is blind that is able to leave their body and experience full blown wide awake induced experiences with visual perceptions? Were they blind at birth or as they got older due to disease or accident?

I believe this is a big key element we should be investigating, re-searching and documenting.

Please advise!

Hi Tvos

i know this has been discussed before and I always recommend the book Mindsight by Kenneth Ring which has a few case histories.  I know you are looking for actual people you can contact, but perhaps you could actually talk to Kenneth Ring and he may be able to help you?  The book gives some very interesting examples of people blind from birth who experienced "vision like" (ie highly detailed 3D colour) perception during NDE:

You're probably already aware of this book, but I just thought I'd mention it, perhaps for others on the board.  It's well worth reading.

Catmeow,

Yah, I am aware of the book and this is the information that keeps leading me back to his studies. I would like to however work with someone who is blind, teach them how to leave their bodies and see if there are reports of any perceptual visions.

Hmmm

Well I wonder if you could advertise for volunteers?  If you're able to give up sufficient time to tutor someone, that may be a way... but i admit it would be a long struggle...... most sighted people don't have the perseverence to do this.  Robert Bruce said something weird in his book which I never understood, which was that blind people don't "see" during OBEs in the same way that sighted people do.  How would he know, has he met blind OBErs?  And why should our physical handicaps be duplicated in the OBE state????

I have been reading up on the internet about "Do blind people dream" and there are a lot of resources for this discussion.

Basically, it depends if the child at birth was blind, they still dream, but in a different sense. Most have auditoral dreams, feelings are enchanced with emotions, senses, smells at a higher rate than a blind person. Some blind people will see a visual mesh of colors that the brain will have a difficult time understanding and translating.

Blind people past a specific age will dream in enriched color, shapes, but objects are blurred to a degree and translation is fuzzy.

Now, my big interest would be to teach someone how to leave their body who is blind at birth. I do think there would be still a challenge of interpretation of visual stimulation and not understanding what they are seeing.

Never a less - a excellent study

Well that would indeed be an excellent study if you could do it!  I also read that people who become blind continue to have sighted dreams for several, even many years after they lose their sight.  Anyway, good luck with your endeavour as always i know you'll keep us informed.... btw it's 4:00am here in the UK so I think I better go to bed now!

Catmeow,

Little late eh! get to bed and stop responding to my posts..:)

Yah, this is something of interest and would be exciting if we could help
the blind "see" through an OBE.

Your Star

I hope it is possible to get a born blind person to reach a OBE because that would be a miracle in many peoples own eyes showing the unimaginable to a blind. This could also convince many people that OBE's are more than just signals going off in the brain but im sure people will still find a way around this fact. Did Robert Bruce say if the OBE'r was only seen on the astral plane or was it someone in real life that he knew who was going out of body?

David Warner

From memory, Bruce assisted a blind person to experience OBEs. The blind person didn't see, but could feel, sense, taste, smell at a higher level and rate. Also, Bruce mentioned that why do you need to see in the astral?

Never a less, so much more would be to help blind people, be able to see a flicker of light, shape, or a object. Although, I know it would be tough for someone who is blind to dicipher but I think it can be achieved.

As for proof, validation - I've past that mark a long time ago. It's unfortunate others want to 'see' miracles performed. What do I say? - do the work and you'll "see"...:)
