Hello everyone. I'm new here, I wanted to drop by and say hello, and to tell you why I registered.

About 2 months ago, I put the kids down for their nap. I sat down in my cozy chair tilted my head back, and tried to doze off for a quick nap myself. I could hear my wife in the kitchen and it was keeping me awake, but I figured If I just ignored it I'd fall asleep eventually. I think about 20 minutes must have gone by and she was still in there, clanking dishes and making all kinds of obnoxious noise. I thought I heard myself snore for a second, then I thought about how I was kinda hungry, and I thought about making a sandwich, since the nap wasn't working out anyway.

Out of nowhere, I started shaking, massively, I felt pins and needles all over my body like when your foot falls asleep, but everywhere. And I heard a sound that sounded somewhat like high voltage electrical conduit, with a rumble behind it. I freaked. It felt like I was in the middle of a thunderstorm during an earthquake. I actually remember saying "whoa!", but I never actually said it, if that makes any sense at all. I manageed to calm down and get my eyes open. I moved around a little, I felt fine, but when I closed my eyes, it felt like I was sitting in the middle of a carousel, spinning around with my eyes closed. But my body was not moving at all. All this because I was thinking about making a sandwich?

So I thought I had something wrong with me. I checked the internet, (yeah, I know), and guess what I find? New age websites and a lot of hoopla about Astral Plane's and Soul Traveling. Great....

After much reading, it appears that there are literally millions of people describing what happened to me, and then some. Some of them, turned out to be people I know, but they never told me what was happening with them. So. I went to amazon, bought all of Robert Bruce's books, and several others by different authors.

I now am trying to re-produce what happened that day on purpose. Which is harder than it sounds as it turns out. I look forward to exploring this aspect of my life, And I hope I can share my experiences here with you.

I had a similar experience actually, except mine was a lucid dream which happened out of the blue one night. It seemed to last for hours. The next day I started searching the net, fully expecting to find nothing and believing that I was probably the only person to ever have this experience. Then I came across the Lucidity Institute forum (long  defunct) and learned that it's quite a common occurrence and that you could actually learn to induce lucid dreaming.
I started practicing the exercises, but it took me nearly six months to find the right method for me and repeat the experience. Since then though I've done pretty well and have had many hundreds of lucid dreams and dozens of OBE's.
Although it took me a long time, everyone's definately different in this respect, and many people are successful within a matter of days or weeks. It's worth every hour of effort you put into it and is literally a life-changing thing for many people.
Good luck with it.....

The good news is that if it happened spontaneously for you, it'll be easier to do on purpose, since you've had the symptoms already.
