Hey guys, I'm new here so i figure first off i should introduce myself. Im Dustin and I'm 17 going on 18 on the 10th =). But anyhow, I have been trying to have my first OBE for a few weeks now. Every time i get to the point of feeling like i can lift up out of my physical body i start to do so and my heart starts racing really fast and throwing me off. I don't know why but its kind of like getting an adrenaline rush? I really want to have an OBE but I'm not sure if its that I'm overly excited or nervous or what that makes this happen. If anyone has had a similar experience please let me know what to do to stop this =P. Thank you in advance.
It's so common it's easy to say that it's most likely your heart chakra (non-physical energy center) firing up, which in turn causes nervousness and your ACTUAL heart to increase. For some reason, this happens a lot at the beginning for many people. It's pretty freaky, but will go away with more practice. For me, it was always accompanied with heavy vibrations as well. I remember that with every attempt it became less and less until it went away completely. Vibes too.
Alright thanks a lot ill just keep practicing at it and hopefully soon enough it will stop happening to me.

Welcome to the forum.
I feel like I should chime in here since I am only 4 months into learning AP. This very thing happened to me on some of my first attempts but is no longer happening so I agree with Stookie that it's simply a transient side effect that "beginners" experience. It was for me anyway.

Sounds like nerves to me. Does it actually restrict anyone from being able to exit?
youre scared, or at least your body is. its not normal to be conscious of leaving the body. its almost as if its ingrained in our dna that this happens when we die... something to ponder
I have been experiencing this for a while now...But I feel like I am starting to get used to it, and I was able to calm myself during my last attempt. For me its more like reinforcement that I am on the right track, because its so commonly experienced before the first.
Thanks for all the replies i appreciate it, and yeah definitly it lets me know im getting closer. I thought maybe the reason for this was because i think my house is haunted. But maybe thats just me creeping myself out.
