Right before going to sleep at night is not the best time to AP. Your brain wants to enter deep sleep at that time. but you need to be entering REM sleep for the best chance of projecting. Your best bet is to set an alarm to wake you after 5-6 hours, then stay awake for maybe 15-20 minutes before making your attempt. That way, most of your deep sleep is out of the way, and you should enter directly into a REM (dreaming) phase of sleep. You'll be much more likely to succeed if you do it that way.

As Nick said, before bed is never the best time to practice.
You're physically and mentally exhausted from a full day.
Try another time of day... Nicks suggestion of early morning is generally the best time.

For me, I have never been able to any AP right when going to bed. I'm always to tired and fall right to sleep. The best time for me has always been Sunday night Monday morning, usually right after that morning run to the bathroom!
